Right my det sensor or cable to det sensor has given up the ghost.

I have done the 1Mohm trick and Im now off safety boost and boosting up to 14psi (Boost jets).

These cars are bloody quick.

Thing now is det sensor worry.

When I replace the clutch I will have one fitted where its meant to go as its easy when gearbox is off (Ive heard)

For now is it that important if car is fuelling correctly etc

I know I can hole a piston etc if its detting but is there any other way of knowing without waiting for your engine to die.

Car has just been checked, tuned and setup by conzult.

I looked on TT website for alternative locations of DET sensor but the pictures must have been deleted.

whats the 1Mohm trick ?

Hi Steve

The 1 ohm resistor fools the ecu in thinking that the det sensor if OK and therefore doesnt put it into safty boost, not really recommended as you can damage your engine if you do get detting!!

chears mate

wont do that then

cant afford for it to go bang

steve:D

I know what I am about to say amounts to herecy but don't forget that the ECU only monitors detonation in a small region below about 3500RPM. You have no protection above that. Perhaps running without a det sensor is not so bad.

Perhaps.

Theres an article on TwinTurbo.net about possible relocations but the poxy pictures dont work.

Does anyone have an archive copy - the best place for it seems to be underneath the engine and not one of the plenum bolts.

fuel pressure, fuel pumb and good tuning of the fuel maps then u dont have any problems

***** the ECU only monitors detonation in a small region below about 3500RPM. You have no protection above that *****

Can anyone Verify this?

Hi Jason

Yep this is true, if you want to monitor detting after that you will need an after market det sensor.

Kirbz

I dont know about that but if u talk to member nitropow he connected his blitz power id to show the detonation but i dont know how reliable it's so just open a thread for him

Well depending on how much your willing to spend Chris @ getgreddy showed me a HKS one and that was cool but rather pricey but is one of the best ones you can get and doesnt look ugly, the other way ad this is the way i'm going to go is linking an aftermarket det sensor to a PDA along with the ECU to display lots of engine functions, again looks pretty cool.

Kirbz

Whatever knocking device u use it will be monitoring only up to 3200 becuase of the vibrations on the engine now to put an aftermarket 1 it's not easy better by software like consult and monitor ur engines other outputs

DP Motorsport have got back to me about their Knocklink sesnor. Apparently it should pick up Detonation to 7K/rpm

Decent knock sensors can pick up det much higher in the rev range. The ONLY protection the stock det sensor gives (IMO) is against a serious problem with your car/bad fuel. If you get det below 3500rpm then you're certainly gonna get it higher in the revs and this is where the damage starts getting big (not that theres no damage at lower revs..). Its your car and your choice but be sure you know what detonation sounds like if you're gonna remove the sensor ;)
