After using my ConZult diags I got an error 34 knock sensor 13 starts ago. I have searched through threads to get a basic idea of what this means but would like to know what detonation is? I have never noticed my Zed going into safety mode and have never had any performance issues with it. If this circuit was disconnected and the car was turned on, will the ECU return this error. The only work I've had done near the det sensor circuit is the heater matrix pipes. I've cleared the errors and reset my ECU and now get Code 55. If this knock error returns, does it mean it needs looking into or could it just be a one off?

Cheers

Is there anyone willing to look at the results of a run I did yesterday. I need an expert to analyse my Logfile and tell me if it shows up any obvious issues.

Hi Mate

Detonation can happen when your running too hign boost so my first question would be have you upped your boost? it also could be a faulty det sensor which is quite common. By resetting your ecu it will get rid of the code 34 but it will come back again if it is reading detonation.

Do you have an after market boost controller? because even if you get detting the ecu will put the car into safety boost but being as a boost controller over rides the ecu's boost settings so you wont notice a difference in performance but beware if your getting detonation you can cause major problems like blowing a piston ring etc so worth checking out.

Detting sounds like some stones in a tin box being shaken.

I'm sure more people who are more technically advanced than me can help more but it gives you an idea

Cheers

IIRC, code 34 means the det sensor circuit is faulty, meaning it can't read detonation so it puts your car in safety boost incase. It doesn't mean your car is detonating.

Vijay

Hi Vijay

You see you learn something everyday, i was told that it put you into safety boost because it detected detonation or if the sensor went faulty it could put you into code 34 as well.

I am learning...honest :D

To add to the above practical advice, detonation is when the fuel-air mix in your cylinder explodes rather than burning smoothly (but effing quickly). It is caused by a number of things: wrong octane fuel, wrong fuel/air mix and a bunch of other stuff too technical for me.

It is not good. You can end up wrecking pistons, engines etc.

Sometimes - as Vijay says - the detonation sensor fails. This can be bypassed for a test but I would be far too nervous to run an engine for real without finding and fixing the fault. Otherwise how do you know it's the sensor or a serious problem about to blow your engine.

Good luck - Gio
