OK I've got a switch but when I press it both mirrors start to fold but then "clack-clack" and stop without really moving. Sounds like a slipping or worn nylon gear to me - both at the same time?

Is there a second release switch I need to press to fold them in?

My passenger side mirror used to do this every now and then but a gentle nudge would see it folding all the way in.

I didn't need any new parts just took it off, gave it a good clean and lube up

(oo-er) and all was well, never did it again.

No. The sound you hear is something slightly worn or nor quite right. Mine does it sometimes and then starts again. Try what james300 suggested. I haven't done on mine as I find a swift blast of "ignore it in the hope it will go away" spray sometimes works. ;)

Pull it off and have a look, you'll probably find the meatal disc has moved/bent/slipped a bit i fixed my passenger side after the said disc broke, with a bit of no more nails it was a ok!!

TIP; Put something under the unit, like a bag, if your taking it off, as if the mirror is in the wrong position, those little ballbearing bits that make the mirror click in and out can fall out and you'll never find them.

Ill go dig out my pics of my glue job!!

Ahhh so my choices would be [James300]Just nudge it until it works, if it breaks it needed replacing anyway; or [Gio]"Magic ignore it spray" (boy have I got loads of that stuff); or [b19rks]take it apart and fix it, if you break it it needed replacing anyway.

Cheers chaps. b19 - looking forward to seeing the pictures!

Then if this metal bit is damaged, glue it back together with no more nails!!!

Job done!!:D

I had this on one of mine - take it apart and clean it all up and see how you go.
