ohh dear let the flame wars begin.

you will find that people either seem to love them or they hate them. I'll put my cards on the table now and say that i dont use anyone else.

now that's not to say they dont have their faults. From my point of view and reading their history you wont find anyone in the uk that knows more about a 300, 200 or gtir. However they aint cheap and their customer service has been known to let them down.

once you've been sat on your arse for 5 hours in the waitng room but know that you couldnt possibly take the car anywhere else - then you've had the SE experience.

i know - i've sat on my arse - i fully expect to sit on my arse again - but the zed just keeps getting better -

hope this helps

regards,

alex

well im the guy with the s13 which has been in and out of there more that a few times (the one that Dan_blitzed refers to)

if you wanna pm me you can :)

No you can't as you don't have access to PM'ing on this board :(

this post says nothing !

i make no bones about the fact that i think SE are a good outfit - i think they have the best knowledge out there - That isnt to say they dont piss me off sometimes - if you have something to say that isnt libellous then you can say it on the forum.

Regards,

alex

To be fair there's MORE than enough threads on both sxoc and this board about SE's work - certainly enough for people who are interested to make an informed opinion on whether they wanna take their cars there

I'm not gonna sit on an open forum and slag them off just to put ppl off going there - aint my style. I've spoken about them and their work in open forums before but those posts were in our S13 Technical forum because i needed advice from people i trust and respect

If someone is genuinely interested in what has happened to date between SE's and I then i will tell them - email me on arry200sx@hotmail.com

Sorry not to be of more help but I'm not letting myself in for a huge flaming by all you guys that think the sun shines from pete's rectum

out of interest? Best knowledge compared to whom? who else have you tried? :)

hi arry,

i've tried enough, and i'm not going to get into this. Yes you are right that there are lots of posts around if you want to look. I also know that some of these people who were unhappy at the time have since been sorted out.

no offense M8 i've just seen too many threads which hint at some big disaster in the past and then go all hush hush.

I'm a great believer in honesty, you get good service then post about it - you get bad service then post about it. That way everyone can make up there mind.

I dont think the sun shines out of petes behind but if you can point out somone who knows more about my Z32 i would be interested to know who it is.

Regards,

alex

have to say never had a problem with their work, they just operate to a different time scale to me. my weeks only consist of seven days, their weeks can run into many more ?, bit annoying that you pay more in labour for a zed than a pulsar when it seems to be the same hands turning the same spanner

OK if Arry wont say it then I will.

They rebuilt his engine 9 times trying to get it right. They still havent got it right.

Its all very well knowing lots about the Z32, but working properly on one is a different matter.

Pete does know a lot about nissans.

(Note from Mod : removed potentially libellous comment.)

dont like bodges on me zed thanks for the input:(

I have had minimal contact with SE, but I went to their open day,

Pete seems like a top bloke, he is extremely knowledgable about the engine, not just to the extent of your basic mechanic, this man will go into the tiniest details of any component. I learnt a fair bit from him.

Bob is a salesman, he talks the talk and is a very good salesman, Idealy when dealing with a garage I don't want to talk to a salesman I want to talk the the mechaninc working on my car.

I get the impression they are set in their ways about how they will do things. I think they prefer things are done properly with the correct parts that are rated for the job, this often means upgrading stock parts which some people argue on the forum do not necessarily need upgrading.

You usually only hear the bad experiences and never the good ones, I know they have had their fair share of engine blowups but I think if you are building cars with big HP then a few will blow up.

Bob was telling us all about the massive BHP some of the SE cars were going to put out on the rolling road. None of them hit over 400@ the fly (no car did). PaulCs setup which is home tuned by him with stock internals could have got the greatest results of the day if his plastic fantastic tyres had got traction ;)

I guess the greatest fear I have of using them is their time scale, I am going to use them for my next service, but sitting in a reception for 5 hours is unacceptable to me, going over schedule without prior warning is also something I find unacceptable if no unknown problems crop up. If you can't do the work then you should not take it on.

This is my view of them based on my very limited interaction with them.

HI Mike,

i agree with absolutely everything you just said

Bob=front of house

Pete=back of house

and they definitely have an opinion of what is the best way to do things. personally i've gone a different way and they've obliged me- only time will tell if i'm right :D

alex

Martin, have you ever had personal experience? No, so you've no right to comment.

My experience with SE?

I used to live across the road from them and used to be their biggest champion, would always stick up for them...... until the day I went in with a blowing exhaust. Without inspecting the car (looking or hearing the car, Pete said it was Turbo Gaskets and would require the Turbo to be removed..... was fixed with Turbo on the car for the sum of £10, not the 300 or so that Pete quoted. He must be a ****ing good mechanic to diagnose a problem without seeing or hearing.

Since then, my Dad has been told that a perfectly good clutch on his 300 his knackered and needs replacing.

I will not argue with Pete's knowledge, however his method of putting his knowledge to practise is far from good. And some of his excuses have to be heard to be believed.

I will not be using SE again. I would rather drive to bath and use Norris on the basis of his reputation than use SE again. I just count myself lucky that my engine was one of their good ones.... to a point. It was never finished.

And their temperature switch for the electric fan has to be seen. Tie wrapped to the exterior of the water pipes

  • 4 months later...

Just so you know - I demanded a refund from SE Nissan/Nisstech whatever they are now back in December 2003 after they failed to re-condition my engine to a reasonable condition over many attempts in a period well in excess of a year.

I delivered my engine to their doorstep in November 2003 because it failed (burnt 5 litres of oil and eventually lost all oil pressure) after just 500 miles and was told it would be worked on within 2 weeks, and I would have a phone call to update me on the progress. The phone call never materialised and upon visiting SE's a whole month later, the engine was still sitting on the same pallet I delivered it on, untouched.

Bearing in mind I paid for this rebuild IN FULL, after waiting over 6 months for them to do it, in November 2003 - I felt I was fully justified in asking for my money back, especially given the fact that this was not exactly the first time they had rebuilt it under warranty because of poor workmanship.

I have now sent numerous letters to Mr Rosenburg but he responded only to my first letter, stating that he would investigate the matter and report back to me with the findings within 1 week. Again, this never happened, and 4 months on it looks as if this matter may have to proceed to court.

Oh well. No-one can say I haven't been reasonable about it

That's appalling mate, i dont blame you taking it further. Crap service. :(

Sorry - I was actually supposed to say 2002 there! Makes it even worse eh :(

 you are fookin jokin, thats unreal :(

 you are fookin jokin, thats unreal :(
Unreal but does not suprise me.

I bought a rear spoiler from them the quality of it was crap I spent a day sanding it and refibre glassing bits and pieces, nothing like the quality of zcentre, I have found them a bit dear too

not had good service at all - I have a s12 silvia which was the reason for them setting up in business (SE = Silvia Engineering) and was told they dont stock any of the parts anymore !! and just got the inference from both bob and pete that they werent really bothered because my car wasnt a 200, 300, or pulsar.

i am sure some people have had good service but IMO they arent all they are cracked up to be.

good job I dont bloody well use them, my mechnic may not know everything about the car, but by christ he does a bloody good job.

last time I had the car with him I was driving past the garage at 11.30pm and the light was on, there he was happy as a sand boy cleaning my engine.

And if he cant do it, he knows a guy thatcan. just dont book it in on a friday as he races sat and sunday and you got NO hope lol

is it actually Regencies you use then? just the new guy who took over?

Always handy to know - could do with a decent spanner monkey from time to time :)

I'd slated SE's in a post earlier today, on another thread. Mac1 edited it - sorry matey, I didn't mean to go off on one but lost my temper a bit. Tried to PM you but can't on this board
