Have you seen it??

If it looks good and drives well with no significant faults it's probably not a bad price, allow £600 for 60K service/cambelt change/gearbox flush & new oil though if no history, not worth risking a snapped cam belt!!

You really should take someone with you who knows zeds well.

Remember if he's asking £4995, you might get £500 quid off towards the servicing if you can haggle well!!

Paul:)

Oh, by the way it's an import, but you probably already know, so look out for a proper job being done on fogs, speedo conversion, radio frequency expander/aftermarket system (or you'll only get wogan arghhh...!!!)

Paul N

Oh... and steering wheels arn't height ajustable!! thats wrong!

I can buy it for £4600. I was just worried about the lack of service history.

Spoken again to the salesman, would will do £4700 with a cambelt+pulleys.

He reckons, genuine Nissan part @ £130+VAT and labour £110+ VAT, so a cambelt change would cost £240+VAT. Does that sound about right?

WARNING!!!

Unless he's really good with Nissans, don't let him do the belt, pay less and get it done by a specialist, it's a job I wouldn't trust most "ordinary" mecanics (those who don't work on zeds all the time!!) with if I were you!!

Paul.

DO NOT GET STUNG ! check who the warranty is with before you buy it as i bought a car from a dealer and they also sold me a warranty 4 weeks after purchase my auto-box gave up and the warranty dosnt cover it so BE CAREFUL ( warranty holdings ) not that i would name them

PS,

THeres no point in doing the belt without the waterpump, thermostat and small hoses whilst in there, these will be getting towards knackered by now, and you'll have a big labour bill to do them seperately if they're not done at the same time!!

Paul

He reckons he uses a specialist  and has sold over 40 z's

Im just very sceptical of garages, seein as i work for one :p

now i got stung big time by a dealer i paid £5k for a motor that had historysince its been in this country but i now haveto pay at least £1500 to put it right if i had my chance again i would buy off this forum and after hearing all the things said for that money buy Mr Shrimps if its still available and no i aint been paid to say that ( not yet anyways ) :D

If you have any mechanical ability, there is nothing in the 60k service you cant do yourself :)

MOTORPLAN Warranty backed by some big company, cant remember who, something like GE or similar.

Hmmmmmm

I would take it for a nice long drive if i were u Kernow.

If everything works correctly , the engine sounds sweet , no smoke, gearbox changes perfectly and the body is as good as it looks on that pic , buy it!

£4700 aint bad and like Paul says get him to do water pump aswell, still 4700 tho.

Its exactly what i was lookin for 8 mnths ago (silver/leather), but then i saw a yellow one in autotrader one night, drove it and bought it the next day. no messin lol.

I would get them to photograph the cambelt work as its done, then you can see its done, just incase he may be telling you any old crap so as you buy it,maybe he could give you a list of all these other 300zx owners that he sold too,you could check on a few to see if things went ok after them buying(would not think for one minute he will but i could be wrong)If he agrees to none of it then walk!!Tony

Mate - dont pay them to do any of the work - they can tell you anything - Get the price knocked on on the cam belt 60k service and find someone who is backed up by someone on here to do the work. Also get the warranty price knocked off it and sort your own warranty out then you know what you are paying for.

And dont part with any cash before you take it out for a test drive - it should fly with now funny noises - if he says 'They are all like that' then there something wrong somewhere as there are virtually no 'odd' driving quirks when this car is running properly. The only thing you may hear when first started up is lifter rattle but it should clear completely within a couple of seconds - thats normal!

Cheers guys, this is still the closest ive seen to what i want, so if its still available after sunday, im gonna drive to see it (5hrs) :o

I think i WILL ask for the cash alternative to the cambelt and get it done myself. Not sure about the warranty side though, i work for a garage and can get *ahem* a warranty holdings one for about £100 but u have to pay extra for turbos and a/c.
