I am know considering fixing my Z up for proper sale. The car has two speciifc faults. Cylinder head gasket leaking into the bores and the Air Con Compressor knackered.

Best option to replace the unit completely - easier

Buy a gasket set and skimm/replace the head

I where i can get a Air Con Compressor £195 which would suit being done at the same time.

Presently the car is for sale at just £1,500.

I need premises in the Shrewsbury area where i can work on it, i have a CD Rom maintenance manual.

But what do you guys think?

From what I have heard, to actually take the head off you have to take the engine out.

I have read about people changing the gaskets with the engine in, but I dont think you can take the head off all the way from one side. People just lift it and then put the gasket on.

Hi eddie,

Ive taken the heads off my Z in situ but frankly it is quite time consuming with very little room to work around the top end.

I would consider taking the engine out and doing the work with the engine out especially since when i fitted a Z engine it went in & out without too many problems.

The cost may be considerable if excessive camshaft & tappett wear exists and if both heads need skimming.

Ideal would be to

look for a good s/H replacement engine you can hear running first.

Best of Luck

eddie147,

Replacement engine fitted with 4 months warranty and can throw in replacement air con pump too £1,500 (probably cost you that in parts let alone the time)

Jeff@Zedworld

I agree that would be the way to go

cheers

Hi Eddie,

just maybe you can help me out here,...heres hoping.

I bought a 300zxtt and unfortunatel after a few months it

apparently lost water from a small leak in the lower part

of the rad.

I cant find anyone to even look at the car,...and i cant get any info or manual.

Im advised to get another engine but it seems a silly situation.

I can see that doing the head would be extremely difficult but seems strange to replace the whole engine especially if its just the gasket and m,aybe one head.

Is it possible to have a copy of your cd manual,..and also do you know anyone who may do the job ?

I otherwise will probably have to let the car go,...but i dont want to.

I was driving about 50mph when the engine just died.

That was that really,...seems the readings on one bank are down.

Im going to test agaih properly myself,..but i hope the damage is minimal. There wer no loud knocks or gbangs, and the engine still turns over freely. It did actually start but it ran very very badly.

Thankyou for your time........Paul
