Hypothetically - if you had 20K to spend on a car what car would you buy?

Geoff.

That is an expensive badge. I would rather have the car that usually accompaies the car.

2001/02 Caddlic Seville STS. Front Wheel drive large (I mean big!) four door saloon. 4.6 litre Northstar v8 engine developing 300BHP. Right Hand Drive.

It'll have to be a caterham/westfield jobby with a bike engine, or preferably on of the tiger copies with two zx12r bike motors in.

A bit longer? A lot longer I think ;)

I actually turned down a purple R33 GT-R very cheap. I didnt have the money at the time

But I would miss not having T-Tops though, and I doubt I would have been able to afford the insurance.

Stuart

The Cerbera is a very tempting proposition but TVRs own V8 whist being very powerful does seem to suffer from premature self distruction, budget £3.5K for a full TVR-Power rebuild, often carried out sub 30K miles.

I was very close to buying one but decided to get an RV8 powered Chimaera instead, tried and tested lump.

For less than £25K you are looking at the very bottom end of the Cerbera market, having said that this one looks very tempting, buy i'm not a great fan of the blue/grey combination

I thought they where Ford V8 or Land Rover ones or something. There is a strange rule if you put so many into a car a year, you can class it as your own.

Stuart

They used to use the Rover ones but then started building their own. Unfortunately they are unreliable and were prone to burning valves and needing a rebuild after 1500 miles from new.

I do work for a TVR dealer and when i asked the guys in the workshop which car in the compound they would have as their choice they all wanted a Mondeo which had been traded in as it would last the longest!

As far as Skylines go a decent GTR33 will cost £16k min but the GTR34 start at £32k min for a good one so start saving.

As Bob said TVR used to use the Rover/Buick V8 (RV8) in various forms from direct exchange as in the 4ltr and 4.3 to played with such as the 5ltr. The final model to use the RV8 was the Chimaera, which is still available in 4.3 guise if the dealers put together an order of 10 cars or more I believe.

TVR also used to build their own V8 as used in the Cerbera, they have however now moved over their concentrated efforts into the speed six engine, in all its forms including the recently launched Typhon, 4ltr supercharged giving 500bhp.

TVR own TVR-Power in Coventry who build all their power plants now.

Tim
