wheel hub & bearing - urgent advice needed!

Busy trying to fit a new rear wheel bearing. Got the old one off but have a couple of problems...

Firstly, part of the old bearing inner surface has seized to the wheel hub. Any advice on how to get that off? Tried heating the thing up in oven but hasn't made any difference.

Secondly, the hub surface that fits inside the bearing seems worn and quite loose. Should there be any play in this or should it be a really snug fit? If the wheel hub is knackered too anyone know how much one of those is?

Cheers

David

i take it you mean the 1st inner race on the drive flange?

3 options:

1, find someone with a proper bearing remover, this presses in between the surface of the race & the flange, allowing it to be pressed off.

2, put the hub in a decent heavy duty vice, split the 2 with a chisel & hammer off

3, carefully cut a groove with an angle grinder in the race, when it becomes thin, it will split easily when hit with a chisel & fall off.

& yes, it should be a press fit back into the bearing

Thanks Paul,

Been busy with dremmel, then chisel & hammer. Done the trick!

The drive flange is really badly stepped - which I assume is wrong!! don't think I'm going to be back on the road for a little while :(

Any idea ho much for a new one?

cant remember! ask Mike Feeney in the Traders section, or see if AndyZ's got a 2nd hand one in good condition :)
