Tonite on my way back from the Pile of Wight I had a fright (well i didnt but i like the sound of the sentence).

Now dont tell the Narcs but I hit the A1(M) at Peterborough (the best goddam road for going fast in a straight line ever!) and I thought well why not, it was almost clear and I had the outside 2 lanes to myself.

Floored it, whhoossh nice - straight upto 140mph, then - eek !, no power.

Guessing I hit some bizarre speed limiter?

Not releated to revs - my car does stop working at 7001rpm rev limiter, But I was in 5th and not revving too many rpm's.

Hmm anyone know how to undo this thing, wierd I have heard about 62mph and 112 mph limiters on JAP's but not 140mph.

Ta for any advice smile.gif

Glen.

btw engine came back as soon as car was doing less than 140mph. hmmm>?

I thought this car was supposed to do around 156Mph....(limited ofcourse)....I was long time ago at just above 140...3 lanes no car around....but I didn't go any faster becasue I was withouht roof and the wind was a bit dodgy......but no power cut....?

Eh? Nevermind that...140mph at 7001 RPM in 5th??? I thought these cars could go on to do nearer 186 mph...so what RPM are they running at when you hit that? 11,000???

Tim

;-)

The post doesn't say that the limiter kicked in at 7001 rpm on this occasion, just that it will kick in at that....but at 140 mph he wasn't revving that high and still hit a limiter,

Is the car an import ?

If so who changed the Jap limiter ? you or a previous owner....

Have you got traction control ? That has a rev limiter too ...

Has it Andy? I never knew that...DOH! Mind you I haven't read all the techy stuff on the Racelogic site or even opened up my box yet so I am excused for being a Terry! LMAO!

;-)

Yeah, hard & soft cuts, rev limts, plus all sorts of complicated firing order malarky ....

Not sure if the previous owner did anything with the limiter (at least he didnt say hehe, the Hairdresser car driver LOL only joking m8)

Just bugged me at the time as I dont make a habit of driving at incarceration type speeds but it Looooaadddsss more to go and then BANG!! no power. Poo. frown.gif

Where is (and I release i am going to sound like a complete Dilbert Rachett here) the speed limiter switch so I can turn it off...

Ooohh no dont glen, me sides are splitting, feck me speed limiter switch, you are a right royal terence of the McCann F*ckwit clan.

Doh.

No TC on my car so, /poirot voice/, I wonder vay zis car schtops at 140zmiles per of the hour ?

Seriously guys, I want rid of this so who is the best person to talk to. It will be embarressing if the police catch me after I have knocked off that pharmacy next saturday before trax innit.

Honest officer I just wanted some more Speed goddamit.

Glen smile.gif

Sheesh man you want more than 140?

Nutter..

Didn't someone say they were meant to be limited to 156Mph in UK form? I wonder if your speedo is under reading by 16Mph at that speed... Perhaps??

Yeah, I wondered about that too and discounted it because I thought that these speedo's are reasonably accurate. However, if it's been fiddled with (converted) and there is some inaccuracy anyway and you have different size wheels & tyres then it is a slight possibility. It does sound a little like what happens when the Jap cars hit their 112 limit.

Just had another thought, if the car has been converted then typically the speed limiter just moves further up the scale, so the (112mph) or 180kph becomes 180mph etc., so that theory could be out the window, unless the car has acquired UK parts somewhere down the line. (I'm rambling now...)

Perhaps a UK ECU...

Actually thats something I was wondering about.. if I change my clocks to UK clocks and remove the speed convertor, I'm gonna get the 180kph (112Mph) limiter back aren't I... arse..

Spose that means a trip to Mr JWT to get an ECU without a limiter wink.gif

Simple way to check your speedo:

Get another Zed owner shadow you up the A1! biggrin.gif (cloaking devices highly advised)

Or I think a few of the Skyline owners use GPS tracking to record the speed over distance which is quite a good way of doing things. (Not sure if any Zed owners have GPS tracking though)

Aaronjb Re: speed limiters. There are alot of speed limit removers on the market have you looked at those?

The type fitted to my import is not too bad. My speedo registered approx 100mph at the end of Santa Pods 1/4 mile, the time slip showed a speed of 97mph which aint far off and did doesnt cut at an indicated 160mph(private track an all that stuff).

Trev

Reading with interest here.

Mines a uk std 91TT.

But it accs like hell in a bad mood, still pulling up to 160 & above, I also read the car should do 186mph, right or wrong ?

If its not right, whats been done, or what do I look for to see any tech mods.

As far as I know its std nuts & bolts. But a previous owner was (MK performance)!

Perhaps on sunday a wiser man can inform me.

Heres a possibility for you.

If the car has a speedo conversion they often remove one in three pulses from the speed sensor to (nearly)convert to MPH. This means you can go one third faster than the original limit before the ECU thinks that your doing 112 and cuts you dead. 112 plus a third equals 148 or thereabouts. this is what Luke at Z centre told me when I got my speedo converter, I wasnt bothered because my JWT has no limiter so I bought the speedo converter anyway.

Paul

And if you understand this post then you have had less to drink than me biggrin.gif

Hmmm interesting theorums indeed smile.gif

I think it is the 112xwhatever for the Speedo Convertion+ and/or - the 18 inch wheels theory. Or something.

Basically the speedo has been 'done' but it is the sticker over the kph convertion. Thus I would deduce in my strongbow'ed logic, that the speed limiter is in fact the old 112mph chestnut + 1/3 for the one pulse in every three that is missing.

So I still have an 112mph Jap speed restriction that acts at 148mph (on a private blah blah thing).

So do I need a Norwich Union washing-hands-of-policy inducing Jim Wolf chip or similar or can I remove this Daily Mail style speed restrictor myself.

Thanks for your ponderings....

Glen.

Hi All, I have a 91TT jap import, I have the 1 in 3 speed delimiter and kph to mph converter thingy fitted to my car. I have broken one high level rear spoiler at 160mph and on another occasion have had the car reading 175mph on the clock, now I dont know how accurate the clocks are but I passed a standard M3 like it was stoped and he was reading 155. This was done on 17ins wheels, now that I am running 19 ins the car does not want to go any faster than 140 ish, any ideas????.

Hi,

When I got stopped for speeding on the M40 in my NA, my speedo had been reading up to about 140mph, before I left the motorway. When they stopped me on the slip road my average speed over 2 miles had been 112.45mph!

Makes me wonder about the speedo accuracy, and whether the limmiter was still fitted to my car after all!

It did feel like there was something cutting the power back at that speed...I know it was only a non-turbo...but even so, my Z31 300zx would race up to max. speed with no problems!

JEZ wink.gif

Senna, it might be worth having a chat with Pete at SE Nissan. I had your Z converted when I bought it, and they told me the limiter was taken off.

See what they say - if you can get through to them!!!!

Oh now you've opened the flood gates! LMAO!

Warrrrrreeeennnnnn, your presence is required mate! Here we go...

See if one your mates has got a haldheld GPS device. (I've got a Garmin one). It can read speed very accuratly at one second intervals to one tenth of a mile per hour.

I've noticed that my speedo has a uniform error at all speeds, wherby its constantly reading 5 MPH faster than i am really going!

Another odd thing...the handbook reckons that the Cruise Control will work ONLY between 30 and 90 MPH. 30 is correct, but I can cruise right upto 100 MPH!?

I have a Garmin one too. (Inspector Gadget me ...) I find that my speedo is about 3mph fast at 50 and 5 at 90. Not had enough hands to test it about that though.

My wifes Megane is spot on at 30 and about that seems 5mph fast all the way up to about 100.
