I've had a flick through the old posts about headlamp bulbs, but I can't seem to see anywhere that mentions that the imported ones seem to have two connectors on the back of the bulb, but the ones sold in Hellfords only has the one. I'm assuming here that the one that is missing is the earth and it merely using the earthing of the connection through the connection with the headlamp unit. Can Anyone enlighten me - about this or where to get the right bulbs?

Yep your thinking is spot on! You need to simply solder a wire to the body of the bulb and put a spade connector on the end - this forms the second connection :)

I cannot see how you can solder a conection to the body of the bulb, even if you scrape some of the plating off.

 

If you do a search you will find a way to simply ground the headlight assembly on an existing screw - the other end of the wire has a spade terminal that plugs into the vacant part of the headlamp plug.

It is possible to solder it - you need to get the plating off then use a nice hot soldering iron - about 25W should do the trick. Use plenty of flux and you should get a good connection. Obviously earthing the body of the headlight is a better plan then you don't have to D.I.Y your own bulbs every time.... ;)

So really the best option is to earth the Lamp casing by soldering onto the casing and connecting it to the empty slot in the headlamp connector.

 

What a pain in the ass!! I would have a go at this but it has just NOT STOPPED BLEEDIN' RAINING all day!!!

Rod, ther is a small phillips screw by the bulb housing - you can earth using that and a piece of wire - do a search - theres loads of write ups on how to di it. You dont need to solder which would be difficult with the light unit in place.

Z Centre has the right bulb for imports.

Geoff....yes they do, but being as zed low beams suck, it is advisable to get higher powered one , you can get 50% brighter xenon bulbs (H3's to fit UK zeds or modded ones) for about £6 to £8 each) these you can get on the internet or from Halfords.

Yeah but 50% extra of Zero light equals, ZERO.

 

I have tried these, they are a slight improvment and I do mean slight.

 

Dont go any more than the 55W either. I have tried 100W and the longest one of those bulbs lasted was 3 weeks..

I found the xenon bulbs to be worth making the minor mods. Plus they are cheaper than the Jap 2 prong ones, makes sense to change in my opinion.
