I went to work last night and left my Zed on the drive all night. Ive just returned home and for some reason, the battery has gone flat over night. The led in the car isnt even flashing! This wouldnt be a problem, but for the fact i have no door keys for the car! The only key i have is for the ignition, everything else is remote central locking!!!!

How on earth can i get in without putting the window through?

Is there a way of undoing the bonnet from outside the car?

Im really stuck!

Thanks for any help - Mike

I don't think there is any way to open the bonnet from outside the car.

However because of their age, the 300 is quite easy to break into.

The locking mechanism is not protected very well from the drivers or passenger door.

How come you don't have a key ? Maybe worth getting a set from AndyZ so you don't get in this sort trouble again.

:(

this is why you should have a switch located somewhere hidden under the car so if this happens you can still get in, i found this out the hard way too, bloody batteries :(

why isnt the ignition key same as the door key? thats confusing as mines central locking but when there was no battery i could lock it with the key.

I got locked out of my 7 series BMW once, PITA, although the ignition key was the same as the door locks, the door locks are controlled by solenoids, therefore when the battery was flat the doors couldn;t be unlocked with or without the key.

The only was to get in was to open the boot (not a solenoid) and connect jump leads to the interior light connectors of the Boot. This would put just enough power into the circuits to operate the solenoids of the door locks when you turned the key.

Thanks a lot stu, and everyone else. Just managed to get in. And ive just put a new battery on !

However now the battery tie down bar wont fit over the top of the battery!! It will have to stay loose !

The main problem is over, and i can enjoy xmas again! lol

Thanks again all, (especially SMW1);)

thats clever :)

Chopper when I changed battery I couldn't get the damn brackets back on and it's fine, afterall there's nowhere for the battery to run to.

Yea mate, its pretty snug in there!

I have noticed that with my old battery my volt meter used to read around 13 volts, and this one is just under 12 ! Is this ok ?

As long as it's not below 12V mate, Test it at Crank should drop to about 10V. any less then I'd take it back as it's the wrong one.
