55K miles, manual, Black met, leather, Imaculate car, but, there is always a but! I have just been for a test drive and there is no positive feel to the gear lever, it is all over the place like a van, changes gear ok just a bit vague. Is that normal or should the box be tight?

Also a vibration going thru the car when driving and pulling around 3 to 5 k revs.

And finally when driving along put your foot down on the gas, then lift off, then re-apply again it jerks like a bitch, any ideas, I walked away from it in the end, but if its all simple stuff then I may be tempted.

The gear stick is usually very firm. It hardly moves whilst in gear. Maybe the bushes have gone.

Engine vibration between 3-5k. That sounds like engine mounts problem. But it usually effect the car all through the range and gets better the higher up the revs.

Where you driving when the vibration happened. What gear was you in? Did you try in other gears too?

The jerking when applying and disengaging the throttle is strange.

Maybe the engine just needs a little service. It is amazing how much different the car is when you do simple things like clean a few things. Like the sensors, change the air filters and fuel filter.

The jerking is probably TPS, temp sensor, dirty / maladjusted throttle bodies, or all of the above! All easy to fix. Or it might just have a lighter flywheel fitted?

55k is the age where everything that rots begins to need replacing, so if none of the above have been done that's probably it!

hi mate you most prob have a centre bearing bush gone on propshaft and a bit of lag in the diff like my z cully z:)

Well, I found another one, and bought it! The first car didnt seem right, bodywork and interior was outstanding, but the car had just been imported and so no history onit at all. The guy said it had done 55K but the gearknob was totally worn away and so I took this figure with a pinch of salt. I didnt mind if it was slightly higher mileage as long as it was mechanically sound, but when I drove it, it was shocking, the gearbox was so loose you could almost draw an imaginary circle by moving the gearstick around! And then there was vibrations and the jerking! I am glad I walked away, (I think!) It was too much to take on for a newbie to the 300zx world.

The one I bought is a N/A manual, met black, blue leather, just had a new clutch, propshaft and battery, cambelt done 15K ago, has a full stainless scorpian system and a K&N induction kit fitted and some very tasty looking 18" alloys fitted. The gearbox is a tight as a nuns crotch and it pulls well all the way up the revs, hopefully this one is reasonably sound!

A couple of cosmetic things to do, needs a speedo thats reads higher than 115mph, passenger wing mirror is not folding in and a good polish! I am hopeing my foray into the world of the 300zx is going to be enjoyable!

The first one I could have got for £3600, same spec as the one I bought except the first had 55K miles the one I have has 65K. I paid £3750 for it, has been in the country for 3 years, extras over the first one was the 18" wheels, original alloys with tyres as well, stainless system, induction kit and has a clifford cat 1 alarm, I think that was a reasonable price, not cheap, not over the top, I wanted a good one and so was prepared to go that extra mile!
