Was offered £1000 part exchange for my 300 on Friday - hahahahahahahah I asked him 3 times if he was serious - Iwasnt in it at the time so not sure if he beleived I was for real (no way was I selling - just curious) he said 'its an 11 year old car - who wants that?' so there you go - the culprit was Reynolds Nissan in Southport - avoid them - phoned up a couple of times and am NOT impressed at all.

I'm considering going back in the Z to ask them why they thought it was only worth a 1000 quid - so I can look them in the eye and tell em I wont be having it serviced with them! or repaired - or anything.

Well I don't know your car but look at it from their perspective - do you really think a Nissan main dealer would want to sell an 11 year old car ? They'd just unload it through an auction orthrough a deal with a smaller secondhand trader.

True, but why not be honest with the customer - if thats the level of 'couldnt car less' attitude for my car then what type of attention to detail will an 11 year old car get on a service? I dont wanna find out.

I was offered £3K for mine against a £20k Skylark. Decided not to do it for some reason.

Realistically though a good 90TT is probaly worth £6k tops and a trade deal for a 11 yr old car will never be good whatever the condition.

This is where we are paying for the Nissan name, if it was a 11 year old 928 Porsche then it would be a different matter.

Simon

Hmmm, that's not paying for the name, that's paying for other peoples snobbery !

Andy,

That's it it a nutshell, agree 100%

Simon - just imagine if it was a 240/280Z... It'd be a Datsun smile.gif Arguably much worse... (Datsun Cherry anyone? wink.gif)..

I kid...

This is just my luck invest a small fortune in a car worth f*ckall.

well i guess then mine will just have to be driven till the end. I shall be the last owner of my zed.

Oneday i will be the 1st owner of a car lol.

An old car is an Old car. The ZX is almost at classic status so is only ever worth what someone will pay for it.

A mate of mine had an award winning Triumph GT6 that was immaculate and had been featured in practical classics. It was like new.

When some dope rammed it up the harriss they wanted to write it off as they thought it was worth chuff all (1973 Triumph)

However if you have an independent club valuation certificate they will listen to the supporting evidence and then agree the proper value.

Perhaps our cars are finally at that stage and we ought to set up an agreed value scheme?

Simon

Sad fact of life though! Hey I don't care, I agree with Universal Soldier...I'm gonna drive mine 'till it's dead! Eh? What? He is already dead you say!!! LOL! When did that happen? Ok then, when he's been re-incarnated into a car that I can drive again...there, that better? I will drive him to the end!

Precisely why I can't get shot! Have spent too much money to just sell it for 4.5K or so. Might aswell hold up thousands in 20 squid notes and set light!

But the same thing happened with my Supra, bought it for 6.5K as a low mileage minter, ended up trading him for an arse 2.5K...depreciation or what? Worst thing is that on the national news the other night they were saying that sales figures for sports cars have rocketed. Plus Jensen are making a fantastic comeback and have already sold their first years production in advance...cool!

So all this won't be helping us and our 300'z...only an issue if you're selling though, great if you're buying in my opinion.

Yeah, but Tim depeciation in percentage terms like that seems bad, but you're still talking about naff all cash. Think about if you'd bought a £50K BMW a few years back and it's now worth £18K - then you'd be sore.

Aiiiiii! Happy now, you're right...these people that buy these supercars like J. Clarkson and only do 1000 miles a year coz anything more means 4000 pound, engine out service at Main Dealer and a loss of 20/30 percent in value...why bother???

There is more to this debate than value alone.I find a real snobbery about car registrations exist, to the point that if your car is not this or last years reg then your not in the game.

What a load of Bo??ocks, when I started my business I felt the pressure to lease a brand new vehicle to give the company a good image, and so I did and in fact had 4 new Vauxhall Vectra Sri in a row as the reg changed.Respect to Vauxhall because that is a dam good motor now. However at the end of each lease period (6 months) the cars were offered to me for purchase, New price at lease start £18,750 (Insurance needed to know) offer price after 6 months £11,000 what the hell`s that about. The status of the car was the same but just not the price and thats how to view your Zed I feel 500% happier in my zed than any new car so what does it really matter to the value,,sod em all the price setters if your happy with your motor well thats fine enjoy it, I was without a personal car of my own for 2 years (when had Vectras) and it was not a happy time I say take time to enjoy what you have and don`t worry about the value, still tickles me when some one in a brand new Metro looks at my Zed and says you must be on good money,......if only they knew

Jeff TT

Ps Official price valuation thing may be a good idea for insurance purposes

I hate people like that Jeff, silly sheep people that play the Registration Game hoping for a Brucey Bonus!!! Get a life!

I agree with Tooley, I can never see myself buying a new car, it's a mugs game. You spend all that money just to have an upto date Reg??? You lose something like 30 percent in value the minute you put the key in the ignition and drive out of the showroom! NEVER!!!

However...flip side...people that were buying Lotus Elises and selling them six months later for more money coz of limited production! That can work!!! Skylarks hold their value aswell!

Hi,

Just remember...In the grand scheme of things, a 300ZX is still a relatively cheap car to buy and run...compared to the average Joe in his 'new' family hatchback.Plus, most people still think it's a £20-30K motor!

Beat the system and ENJOY!
