My usual shell garage was closed yesterday so could not get hold of optimax , just up the road is a BP so I put in some of there Ultimate , within 10 mins car is detting at 14.5psi and generally not driving how it normally does, had to turn the boost right down to 12.5 psi to stop detting , what a load of crap not impressed at all.

Bugger, cheers for that, I wont be using that then.

Buy a bottle of octane booster and keep it in your boot for those unavoidable times you have to stick farmers petrol in ;)

Can anyone suggest some octaine booster that works as I know there is a lot of crap out there

Millers

In its defence. I dont think fuel from the tank will reach the engine in 10 mins. Plus how much fuel did you have in when you put Ultimate in?

Stu I had done 6-8 miles after putting the new petrol in and the tank before filling was very low like between 1/8 and empty

i have a similar problem, but with optimax... I normally use ultimate and as soon as i put optimax in my cars detting all over the place. Is it the way the ECU is set up or is it just one of those wierd zed things?

Wierd! Does the ECU self-learn to use the cars usual petrol then? But surely going to a higher RON shouldn't cause detting if 97 was ok??

You say normal LOL but it hasn't been out that long... ;)

Good point, before that i used esso super unleaded and it was the same thing. My car just hates optimax!!!!

Don't the ECUs have to learn "new" petrol? The MR2's used to... specially when the engine is tuned.

My N/A loves Ultimate and I'v been useing if for at least six months. would'nt use anything else..
