I drained the autobox fliud and filled 8.7litres of Dextron III through the dipstick pipe and after a little run smoke is pouring out from the underside. Have I overfilled or not tighten the screws to the oil pan enough?

It's dark now and I need the car for tomorrow. I'm not sure whether to tighten up the screws tighter or drain out some oil.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

wipe all around the seal, then throw some talc at it, take it out for a bit, then have a look the next day and see where its leaking.

As for over filling, im not sure what the capacity is!

you could always just keep dipping the stick and wiping it to get the oil out!!! :p

Van,

When you drain the autobox, only about 4 litres comes out, the rest stays in the torque converter, it seems you have severely overfilled it.

(I did mine last week, took about 4 litres)

Drain some out, I dont know if you have done any damage, seal damage may be possible

I hope you have not damaged it, I'm keeping my fingers crossed mate.

Holy shit!! Only 4 litres. Draining then. I 'll just wait for it to cool down a little first.

Thanks for all for help guys.

Hi Van,

I hope you have had some good luck with your autobox, did draining some of the fluid out help ?

John

Yes it did thanks. I still need to drain some more though. I'm afraid on draining too much out so I'm following the slow method of draining a little bit at a time, letting it settle, take a read and continue the sysled until correct level is achieved. Mind you the dipstick isn't very easy to read or am I going blind? LOL.

All the bolts have been tightened as well which will surely help.

I'll see how things go before I boot it properly- after I have the correct oil level that is.

Cheerz
