Just a question that i need answering.

Im gettin some things put in the front wings of my zed. The problem is that at the top part of the wing (the insides) there is a little box of some sort. I think stu mentioned it had something to do with the cats. Can i remove these and get rid of them as im having a cat by pass done anyway. Need to find out as my bodyshop cant carry on with the wings until we find out what they do and if we can take them out.

You talking about AVIs?

What "Things" are you having in the wings?

This thing for that thing !!! :D

I think thats what it is what do they do. There apparently in the inside of the front wings at the top i think or somewhere near there can i take them out and what do they do.

Is it alike a few pipes and a little black bottle?

If so I think they are the AVI. They recircualate air or fuel for the cats so they warm up or something. No needed after decatting anyway.

Can i remove them and drive for about 400 miles without the cats being removed till then. Or will that F things up for me.

How come u know so much about our zeds arent u a student you should be busy getting pissed mate.

Im at work. :(

I dont think the AVI being removed with the cats on will do any damage. As I said there are purley for heating up the cats quicker. Not too sure about long drives but a few hundred metres wont cause any problems I dont think

Whoz the best person to ask if i can drive without them. Basically i need to drive up to manchester and then come back to london and then im gonna get the exhaust done. Thats why i need to know !!!

Fas

ask on tt.net.

I think you can drive with out them. But I am confused why you have to have them removed.

Basically im having a vent put in the front wing and it sits in where that AIV or whatever its called is sitting. So i need to remove it. Im not sure but i swear iv read threads previously about others removing them.

Anyway im not sure about going to TT.net never been there b4 so ill wait and c for any more answers from others just to get a general idea that im not gonna destroy my engine by doing it

Cheers

The AIV's Cool the cat's down and throw extra air into the cat on deceleration IIRC.

If you remove these you risk burning your cats out, but to be honest if you are removing them later I doubt it will make much difference TBH.

Didint we talk about this in the garage. So if i get K to remove them all i have to do is drive it down to barking leave it there for about 3 weeks and then drive it to manchester leave it there for a week. Then drive back down and get the exhausts fitted. Will i cause any damage to anything else or will i be fine.

I dont really care about the original cats as im gonna throw them away but iv got a Trust exhaust fitted on, will i damage it, its pretty new and i wanna sell it afterwards so i dont really want that getting damaged

Cheers Stu.

I removed mine about 2 years ago - got fed up with the gurgling noise and wanted the weight reduction. As far as I know they are there to cool the cats. Mines an NA, and there's no difference between the emissions readings at an MOT between having the AIV's or not having the AIV's (so they are not for emission tests).

Since removal the cats have remained in good condition, so I think you'll be ok to remove them. Its an easy job, just leave the pipes from the cats going into the wings then block them off.

Only issue is the possibility that the TT pushes more fuel through than an NA therefore the AIV's might be more necessary.

You have a cat temperature warning light on the dash so you'll know if they are overheating. But it's unlikly...

good luck
