Does anyone know where I can buy a pair of these, and how much they might be?

Cheers

I May be sorting some stainless pipes late January mail me around that time if your interested. :)

Grasshopper sells them I think. About £220 it will cost. They are on the traders section.

had some s/s ones made and fitted at powerflow, big difference without them! (£150)

Jim:)

Thanks guys, I'll check out powerflow first to see what they can do. Jim, what increase in power did you get with yours?

Cheers,

Ch

Hi

Got mine from the Z Centre and were a very good fit. My Ap22 performance meter showed about a 15 bhp improvement.

hi charles, I don't know figure wise what sort of BHP improvment I got , its more torque low down the rev range at about 1500 revs, know its getting cold and wet the roads are becoming real greasy and, the wheels spin far to easy, rather adictive to be honest!!

maybe your tyres are wearing out :)

Jon/Jim, did either of you experience problems with excess exhaust smoke after fitting the replacement pipes? I got mine done today with powerflow and although the car is now hugely responsive :) it smokes like hell when I get stuck in traffic. As I waited for the timer to complete its 3-minute cooldown I could hardly see the car for all the smoke. Didn't have this problem before! Help!!

Charles, in most cases removing the cats just reveals what was always there but hidden by the cats! they do say that removing the cats leads to premature turbo seal failure, but if your car has been serviced regular ie oil changes and your seals are in good nick then, not oftern much of a problem. I took the risk of removing mine, after I had a new exhaust fitted.

upon start up in a morning, after idling for about 10 minutes I do get a little smoke out of both sides, sometimes it's only one! then thats it for the day.

It now dos'nt do it at all when its really cold.

is it blue smoke (OIL) or white smoke (water) or greyish (fuel)?

what oil are you using? maybe changing to a slightly thicker oil might help.

It does sound as though your seals are on there way out though mate if its smoking in traffic and on cool down. It happens to us all at some point, its just a matter of when....

hope this helps you a bit mate.

regards

Jim

;)

On the subject of de catting has anyone tried it for a non turbo?

Would that make a difference?

Also is it easy to just remove the cats or does a section need to be taken out then replaced??????

my mate had de cat pipes put on his yank transam i think and when he stopped at the lights he couldent see for smoke. found out later it was somthing that they put on the new pipe. oil or paint or sealing paste. anyway when it burned off after about 100 miles the car was back to normal. its a long shot i know but i hope this is whats wrong with yours;)

Thanks guys. The smoke is definately grey - no hint of blue or white at all. I'm using Ferrari racing oil, and have only just had an oil change last weekend!

I did get a bit of smoke about three months ago, but it was never this bad, and it just went away after a few miles. Further to Steve's post I think I'll let her run for a hundred miles or so and if it's still just as bad I'll get the seals checked out. I'm taking her to Swindon tomorrow so I'll let you know if it stops! Fingers crossed!

I got my decat pipes from a NA owner who said the car was way too loud with them on...

Turbo's cut out a bit of the noise.

Charles mine started smoking after about 10 mins of changing the exhaust , it did improve slightly after a good run but whilst ticking over and stood in traffic etc it smoked really bad , changed the tubs 2 weeks ago and the smoke has dissapered so problem sorted

Ryan how many miles has ur car done. As my zed has 60,000 miles and im getting a full straight through system starting from the turbos. Im starting to wonder if im gonna need 2 budget for new turbos 2 just in case it starts to smoke. Its a 1990 zed so its fairly old but has been maintained quite well.

What do u reckon.

I think every car is different , I had mine de-cated for a year without any probs , it was only when I put the rest of the exhaust i.e cat back on that the seals went , the car has done 56k  but IMHO yes I would probably budget for replacement tubs , it may not happen straight away but at some point it will :(

Ahh crap !!!

What if i get the seals done by some1 whos worked on zeds plenty of times and knows what hes doing.

Would that work or am i just wasting my time with that.

Cheers

Thanks for the update Baggins. I'm still holding on to the hope that it'll stop smoking on its own but I'm begining to think I'm wasting my time! If I have to get the seals replaced will I need to have the engine out? Do you have any idea how much it would cost/who would be able to do it?

Thanks again

Seals are something that have to be done by a speacialist if your gonna take them apart IMHO , good time to upgrade if you want to go down that route

Charles , do some searches on here there are many different views and opinons depending on what your end goal is , you can buy standard tubs for 1k and then approx £700 for fitting

I sure did

How did you fix it Jon?

One quick question:

The smoke is Grey in colour, suggesting a fuel problem. Surely if the seals were on their way out the smoke would be blue?

charles your right! if it's grey then you've got a over fueling prob somewhere? maybe lamda sensors or some thing like that, I don't really know to much about over fueling mate.

blue smoke is oil...

Jim;)
