Z apperently in the Japanes lanuage means, ultimate/Infinate/Nothing better. There is no real translation stright into English.

The X stands for Luxurary.

h'parently the were some designs being put forth when the new 300z was being scheduled and the head honcho at Neesarn looked at one and put a cross X next to it to say no.

Some other bloke saw it and it said 300z X and liked the name.

Personally sounds like a load of crap to me, but what the hell do I know, I drive a Mondeo.

Presumably the same thing had occurred with the 280zx also, then? Good story, but sounds highly improbable, methinks.

I'll go with the luxury theory, seeing as the 280zx was a more luxurious, if less sporty evolution of the 260/280z. :)

Driving a mondeo does not necessarily preclude one from providing useful input does it? After all, most of the time I drive a Jeep Cherokee, and I don't even do the school run! ;)

CheerZ,

JB.

what about

200 sx

100 nx

steve

I heard that the 'x' was to signify sports coupe or something along those lines.

The first letter can be derived by the chassis code/platform that the car is built on.

Hence a 200sx (silvia) would become SX.

300zx (Fairlady Z) would be abbreviated to ZX.

Of course that could be completely wrong, but made some sort of sense to me :D

Sounds like a UL to me, because the Japs don't use ticks and crosses, they use circles and squares, AFAIK! Any of the natives care to comment? Spose a management type might because he talks to gaijin regularly...
