Do the aftermarket cat back systems still employ a 'centre box' (resonator?) or do they just pipe straight back to the back boxes. If they don't does it make the exhast much louder than stock.

No the whole idea of aftermarket exhaust is to free up some power used up by a less efficient exhaust system.

The way to make it better is the make the flow smoother and more free by making the pipes wider and less sound muffling.

Stuart

The whole idea of me getting an aftermarket system is to replace my existing blowing one and avoiding paying big bucks to Nissan. Just want something simple (cheap) in stainless ,don't mind it being a bit louder, not really looking for any power improvement.

Your best bet is Mongoose. Full SS, a little louder and beefier and will give you a slight increase in performance.

The Z is not like a Fiesta where you can go to many places and pic up a simple exhaust. Its Nissan's exhaust or a performance one.

Stuart

get a blitz / b&b triflow - and you'll have the daddy of all exhausts!

Peter, try RMS in Prestwick, they will make you a system to your spec pretty cheap.

They did a custom downpipe for my 205 and it was really nice.

Either that or get a JP one from grasshopper, they will put the centre boxes in if you want and cheapish too

Im having an exhaust done by RMS in the new year. They done one for my 2l 16v manta and it was the monkeys chunkies. Ill let you know how it goes!

Thanks for the replies, don't laugh, I half sort of thought about making my own, boxes £120, 316 stainless 2.5" pipe £17/metre, preformed bends £10 each?

Peter,I hope you know how much less you car will be worth by doing that:rolleyes:

Buy a second hand (STOCK) one;)

but it's gonna be as good as a powerflow!! That's basically all they do!

also, just done this on a friends m535 (old one - e28) and it was up just over 10 bhp on the dyno last weekend!

if it looks ok, performs ok and you're not too bothered about selling why not have a go??

Rich

Just phoned Nissan for a laugh £935 for cat back system. Know I shouldn't say this but think the stock exhaust is a little bit too quiet. Rich, do powerflow use the preformed bend sections rather than 'mandrel' bent tubes, did you Mig weld the sections on the BMW and what boxes did you use.

Where have you been?

Still got the Z?

Hows baby Robert?

not too sure, but i'd be surprised if they don't use mandrel bent pipes - we did, but my mate got hold of them as a one off from a fabrication place he's been contracting at.

the boxes i think were from demon tweeks, I'll have to check.

He did weld it eventually, but only after driving it unwelded and checkin it wasn;t rattlin at all!!!

I'll try and get all the spec off him
