Could anyone tell me what@s the best type of oil to use?????/ Is 15w40 magnetec castrol be O.K??????

Featured Replies

Yep, I swear by that stuff! But some may have another angle on the old Oil debate...LMAO!

I've run Magnatec in my Supra Turbo, Saab Aero and hopefully in me Z...depends what she has in when she comes home...don't ask?

I think quite a few people here use magnatec and say its fine. The general opinion is that mobil 1 is too thin and a 10 or 15w oil is better, although you can get Mobil 1 Motorsport which is 15w50 and is what im using at the moment but its too bloody expensive. The most important thing to remember with any oil is dont leave it in for a billion miles.

Paul.

nice cheers lads!!!!!!!!

10w40 MagnaTec and I have no problems!

Apart from work (too much), money (too little), website (www.topsquads.net), women (not enough), beer (not enough)

NB. Notice the Z is not in there!!

I would recommend using a fully synthetic oil and Castrol Magnatec is only semi!

I use Mobil 1 15w/50 but as Paul mentioned it doesn't come cheap.

If your not hitting 7000rpm every other day then most brand names will protect your engine wink.gif

There was a website link a few months ago on oils....maybe try a search

Hi,

The local Nissan Dealer recommends semi-synthetic, although I used to prefer Castrol RS 10w/60 fully synthetic. After all it's a small price to pay in the grand scheme of replacement parts!

I have Elf 0-w40 fully synthetic racing oil.

and im not going to use it again, had it put in when my engine was done in Italy.

im using valvoline 5w50 i swear by it fully synthetic and only £18 delivered from Central Auto Supplies bedford.

I stick with a fully synthetic and change it every 3000 miles. This is because I do mainly short journeys. If I did all long trips then I would change at the recommended 6000 miles. I usually use either 10/60 or 10/50 in the winter and perhaps 15/50 in the summer if I can't get the Castrol RS 10/60.

I use Castrol RS 0-40. Are you all saying thats too thin? Mines done 115K and apart from a rattle off the hydraulinc tappets on start up if its not used for a week it runs great. Day to day starts no rattle. It had semi synthetic from Nissan all its UK life according to records.

IMO yes. The manual appears to recommend 20/50 for our typical temperature range (-10 to +40).

"The general opinion is that mobil 1 is too thin "...

No... It depends on the weight, not the make.

The most important thing is to go for a fully synthetic to look after your Z better.

Just my $0.02...

I use Redline 10w40 fully synthetic - swear by the stuff. Have also tried castrol Magnatec which was ok & castrol formula RS which was better but the Redline stuff beats em both. Its also cheaper than Mobil 1
