hi zed heads, my rear diff is leaking fluid, ive bought the seal (o/s) from nissan (£8) how easy is it to do, ive looked on the online manual and in past threds but nothing really tells me that its on a spline and you can just pull the driveshaft out and then tap the new seal back in?

has anyone done one before or know what it envolves?

many thanks

mines leaking too. getting the parts soon.

not done one on a zed, but done loads on other cars.

after the propshaft is disconnected, theres 1 nut to undo, it will be quite tight & after that the flange will pull off (may need a puller for this)

thing to remember is this:

MARK THE NUT & FLANGE BEFORE REMOVAL!!

the diff is preloaded by a collapsable washer inside the diff, over tighten & theres no going back! if you mark it & tighten to the same place, all should be well.

we also check with a preload gauge at work, but marking it is just as effective IMO

hi paul, is'nt this for the propshaft seal?

mine the drivesaft o/s seal.

Cerina's Rear Diff is also leaking,

Would this cause a loss of power and slight vibration ?

Will be replacing it soon.

I don't think it's a hard job to do, maybe a little messy but not hard.

Check the FAQs link above and look at the manual there.

changing these seals is a piece of piss - unbolt the offenfing drive-shaft and use a rubber / leather mallet to knock the drive arm out of the diff. then pry the seal out with a screwdriver and replace with new one - inserting the thing into the diff is easy afterwards, and only takes a knock with the palm of the hand!

job done!

However, if its the prop-shaft end thats leaking you've got a lot more grief to deal with ! ref the online manual!

Simon,
