My rear spoiler is starting to show the usual cracks and blisters.

Has anyone tried to refurb their spoiler, stripping paint off, etc. and respray. If so, did you use any special sealer over the foam?

Thanks

John

The spoiler has started to crack becuase there is water soaked into it. The stock spoiler is made of spong/foam of all things, which will soak up water through the smallest hole, but once it gets in there you can not get it out.

You can try to paint over it but it wont take long before its doing the same thing again.

Your best bet is to either get a good used one or buy a stock looking aftermarket one which is made of fibre glass which wont soak up water and it a lot ligher than the foam one.

Don't do it!

The foam has been exposed to water and will never be the same again:(

1 buy a good second hand one

2 buy a fiberglass replacement;)

John,

Don't even think about trying to have the original refurbed!!

Its made of a rubber compound over steel frame. Once they start to go they soak up water like a big sponge and the steel innards start to rust. Even if you have it repainted it will re-crack/bubble before long.

You can buy a new one from Nissan, but your heart will probably not stand the shock!! (really shocking!!!!)

You really are best replacing it with either a replica in fibreglass, zcentre do them, I've got one, it's very good! £185 delivered, and allow £150 for fitting/painting or you could buy a different style if desired.

Thanks everyone,

I guess it makes sense to buy a new one.

The standard one is easier to fit, and cheaper, and I could spray it myself. (ts been a long time ago, but once I sprayed a Lotus Elan 2+2, came out quite good for a first attempt.)

I would prefer the higher spoiler that Zcentre sells, bit I am a bit unsure about the procedure for filling in the holes, has anyone fitted their own ? How did the filling of the holes go ?

Thanks

Mac, thanks.........I must say a new standard one makes sense, but yours looks great, where did you get it, and how much did it cost?

Cheers

John

John,

I fitted mine myself, you bond it on with suitable adhesive auto sealer, with copious amounts around all the holes to ensure they are well sealed!!

The spoiler needs to be clamped up tight and held for several hours until the sealent cures.

It's easier to bond it on and then paint, but on mine, because the tailgate itself needed no paint, I had it painted by my favourite local chap, let it dry for at least a week, then packed it with cloth and wood blocks to avoid getting any clamp marks in the paint on fitting!

Thanks guys,

I guess I will have to get the standard one from Luke and fit it myself
