I'm now resigned to the fact that my gleaming import TT's Autobox is knackered. I've had an expert take it out for a spin with a computer attached and the car is commanding 3rd and OD but it's stuck in second which means I can only do a hundred(ish) :D and get about 4 to the gallon.

 

I've had a quote from a reputable of £1880+VAT with 12K/1 Year Warranty. Other than a S Class Merc. it was of course the most expensive in their books!

 

Does anyone know where I can get this kind of work done cheaper? Is there anyone in the Kent/Sussex area that fancies a bit of extra cash?

 

I will run the diagnostic's when I get the car back from the garage next week but if a so called 'autobox' specialist has said it's knackered because "I can smell the burnt clutch" should I expect it to be knackered?

 

Interestingly, this is the 2nd box that has done this so I'm now a bit worried it's eating boxes! The previous box had been sitting in the car for about 3 years without moving so I'm thinking it's just bad luck!

Try SE,go for their fast road box conversion and you autobox troubles will be over for ever!;)

If your looking for a second hand one...........try Foreign Car Spares in Birmingham--they import second hand stuff from Japan also--ask for Dave, 0121-3278414, keep trying, he's does not always call back, but his prices seem good. He had a back windscreen fitted in my import for £100, parts and labour, the glass was second hand, but you cant tell it from new!

I think (and I'm probably wrong) that it is MJP in the Traders section. Go have a look - most of them have their own web sites.

SE Nissan AKA Silvia Engineering & Nisstek (but not MJP!) do the uprated fast road rebuild as Iain said.

Well worth getting as it is much stronger and changes gear quicker than the stock box.

You could of course convert to manual...

1800 plus VAT is a rip off.

 

I dont know about the SE box, but Ihave heard its good. For £1800 + vat You should get something special.

As Chris said, why not convert to a manual. Zedworld do it for £1500 including parts and labour.
