Front Speakers

Hi all

Apologies if this has been asked a million times before.......but what size are the standard front speakers in a Zed? I'm assuming 6" or 6.5". As speaker technology has moved on a tad since my car was built, I'm quite happy to fit new direct replacements, or go for 6x9" if they'll fit without a lot of work.

All comments welcome.

Cheers

6x9s are the way to go mate linked up to a amp!

there not to difficult to fit, you have to remove the door card and take out the standard speaker bracket, theres loadsa room then!

they just fit in the door card so make sure you gat them central...

jim;)

Cheers mate. I'll be getting them installed by the professionals (or if Bodie and Doyle won't do it, an ICE retailer will do!!) as me 'n screwdrivers don't get on :D

Six by nines it is then

Dont do it!!!

6x9's aint what they are made out to be.

Go for a component set, 6" should be a good swop. Theres an ideal place for the tweeter on the top of the door panel by the mirror. this way you retain the speaker grill and it makes a much better sound stage. Add an amp for best effect

Any problems give me a shout..

Chris..

I agree with Chris,

I have some JL VR compnents and they sound the best.

IMHO 6x9's are ok if you want something to go into the rear parcel shelf and dont want a sub but otherwise don't bother.

Tweeters should always be at ear hight and if they are stuck on top of a 6x9 only your feet will enjoy the sound to its maximum potential.

I might have a set of brand new Phoenix Gold 6.5"components going in a couple of weeks if you are interested.

Cheers,

Justin

Have to say, I auditioned a whole range of options including components before I spent a small fortune on a set of 6x9s from a serious car audio specialist, who sound proofed the whole interior before the speakers were fitted.

Did I mention that I was a profesional sound engineer for 14 years?

Component speakers are for tone deaf chimps!

LOL, Sorry Nige but totaly disagree,

YOur soundstage is compromised completely using 6x9s somewhere like a door. The tweeters are in the wrong place.

Speakers should always, in an ideal world be set at ear hight, especially the tweeters.

You think about a home cinema set up. The front floorstanders are always about the same hight as a seated person to optimise the soundstage.

Mind you, I have never heard a set of 6x9's in doors so might be completely wrong but I am just using audiophile logic.

I just don't see how a pair of 6x9's could hold a light to something like my £300 6.5" JL Audio VR components.

As I said though I would be interested in hearing the 6x9's in that position, maybe I could have saved myslef some money and bought some of those instead!

Cheers,

Justin:)

LOL, you wouldn't have saved a penny if you'd copied my install!!!!!

Anyone who rates 9x6's over components is so talking out of the back of their heads. I can only think that sound technology has moved on since you'r time as an engineer. Don't you know we work in sterio now'er days

Chris...

I've got 6" mids front and rear with tweaters mounted in the vents, and rear posts. Sounds superb but it's probably not worth having the rears when you have 2 x 15" subs blowing the back window out.
