I plan on changing the fluid in my autobox this weekend by removing the oil pan ( I removed the usual 4 litres a few weeks ago from the filler tube with a suction pump)

As I understand it, the gasket used to be cork, now it is a thin, rubbery type 'cardboard' material. My question is, the Nissan workshop manual torque settings of 5 - 8 n-m (3.6 - 5.8 ft lbs)

probably was meant for the more compressible cork gasket.

Does anyone know if this new gasket material requires a higher torque setting ?

Thanks,

John

P.S. Mike Feeney got me the gasket in 2 days, Nissan told me 6-8 weeks.

Surely someone has fitted the new type gasket ?

What torque settings did you use ?

John

i did mine 2 weeks ago and it was that rubbery cardboard gasket, took the pan off cleaned everything then put it back hand tight with a 1/4 inch drive ratchet and everything is still dry under there!

be very careful that you have'nt got very strong hands though they will strip real easy.......

Thanks Jim............did you use any Loctite or some other locking liquid on the bolt threads?

John

no mate i just cleaned the gasket and put it back on as normal.

the gasket should all be in tact when you remove the sump, can be a little tricky to manouver the sump round the auto box cooling lines when you lift it off, mine was! then you can remove the fluid filter and back flush it with clean fluid, you will see small particles of metal in the filter, this is normal and your filter is doing its job!

Well, I removed the autobox pan this morning, put new gasket on, completing the second dexron fluid change in the last few weeks.

I was surprised when I was taking the pan off, IT HAS A DRAIN PLUG! Its not supposed to (I think), being a n/a import. Woud have saved me the trouble of pumping the fluid from the filler tube at the first round of the fluid change.
