Hi-

please can anyone help? Is there any way of getting replacement keys cut for my Jap TT from the chassis no. I have only 1 key which is very worn and 2 "mr Minute" copies (Copied from the worn key) which dont work- I suppose I could file them a bit etc but I'd rather have new if poss.

Does anybody know of any place which does this?

Thanks

Leonard

I wanted the same thing a while back, apparantly Nissan can't (or won't!!) help without the key number, if you have an original key, it should have a number on it, this should allow you to order new keys.

Hi-

It's an original key but there are no numbers on it. I contacted local Nissan dealer and they said they can't help coz it's an import. I will try contacting Nissan GB & Nissan Japan

Thanks,

L

Sometimes, with other makes, asking another dealer makes all the difference as it seems some just cant be bothered.

I've only got the red valet key with mine. It does have a number on it. Can I get a normal black key made up by a dealer?

I think you can with the key number, as stated earlier though, a lot seems to ride on weather the dealer knows this or can be bothered!!

The red valet key will only allow access to the driverside door and ignition but not to any of the other locks (i.e. pass/lock, glove box & boot) so there is not much point in getting that copied.

It's even worse on my car, someone has replaced both the door locks so I have a different key for them! fortunately it has remote central locking so its not too much hastle.

I was wondering if it is possible to re-create the driver key from the number on the valet key?

actually, I think my red key does open the boot - which is odd. I've never tried it in the glove box. I'll do that tonight.

I took my key to the local mainfella and he looked at it and cut a copy of it by sight!! Mine is a UK car though, but dont see as that makes any difference if he can do it by sight!!!

He did say that other dealers wouldnt do it though as they couldnt be arsed!!

Am I sensing a business opportunity here???? :D

I pretend to work, they pretend to pay me!

i lost my only key on first day i had it. breakdown peeps sent locksmith. he opened door in about 45seconds and then took out boot lock and cut me new key from it in back of his van in about 10mins. all for £20!! since found original, so not bad for a spare:D

My import came with the spare keys unused in the glove box. The key number was on a small metal tag attached to the key ring.

My Nissan dealer could only cut a key from this. The local cobbler/key cutter did the job much more cheaply.

Thanks for the advice. I don't have the original key number - Unless someone can tell me if it's hidden in the car somewhere, or on the lock barrel.

I will try taking a lock barrel to a locksmith.

thanks

I have used a company called "Keys Galore" cant find the number but directory inq should have it. I never had a problem they couldnt fix. And they cut from key number quicker and cheaper than main dealers, inc chipped keys.
