i know the oil pressure gauge and boost gauge and temp gauge are not the most accurate instruments in the world but when i start my zed ( manual jap TT) the oil pressure is strong when the engine gets up to temp and im ticking over the pressure is nearly off the bottom of the scale , levels and oil condition seem fine

when on boost or revving, then the oil pressure comes up to strong again , is this normal that the oil pressure drops right off at tickover when up to temp ?? or is there something sinister going on under the bonnet

mine is exactly the same but seems to be ok had it checked on a computer at a nissan garagei think there was a thread on this subject a couple of weeks ago. the technical guys will have answers for you soon they are a great help on here.

Thats exactly what mine does, sits about 5mm above zero on stock gauge, occasionally wandering upwards under throttle :)

 

Just drive easily until it drops, ie up to temp and flowing nicely.

This is a very common problem. The source of it all is the way the oil pressure sender unit is built. I'm not sure how you call this but it is basically a tiny strip of metal that bends over a coil, thereby changing resistance and causing the needle in the guage to move ... (a very technical description - I know :)) As you can well imagine, these parts do not get changed frequently and as our cars are now 10+ years old the metal does not bend as well or as far as it used to. If you are really worried then you can buy a new oil pressure sender unit from Nissan (think it is about £90 incl. VAT) and replace the old one. This is a very easy and quick job to do as the unit sits right next to the oil filter (although on the later models this may have moved to another location - not sure on this though).

cheers Danny , i was going to put an after market set of gauges in the lower ICE slot so i would imagine a new oil pressure gauge would come with its own calibrated sender unit ? maybe im wrong but thanks for the info i can rest easier now
