HELP it's doin my head in

my power steering seems to go heavy then light when cornering, have done a search on here and read all the replys?. but I have an apexi multi checker wired in and that tells me the speed sensor is ok, new speed convertor fitted a few weeks ago -- got it from Luke, heres the part where I'm stuck the speedo has an intermittent fault on it -- some times it doesn't work.

Question

does the speed sensor signal get split into 2 signals after the speedo I.E. 1 signal into the speedo then 1 out to the ECU and 1 out to the powersteering. I think the problem is speedo related but would like any other opinions.

silly question but have you checked the fluid? I had a similar problem with the hicas light coming on and power steering not working and i sorted it by pushing the speed sensor back in as it had worked itself out a bit.

99% sure your problem lies with a dodgy speed sensor.

silly question answered -----Yes --- fluid is ok

speed sensor-----I disagree because the apexi multi checker that I've connected is set to monitor speed (it's more accurate than the speedo anyway) this doesn't drop off or flicker when the speedo does

I'm not ignoring the idea of the speed sensor but it's at the bottom of my list at the moment

Pete :)

let me know when you've replaoced the speed sensor and the problem has gone away :D ;)

I have had both problems, a faulty speed sensor then a wrongly fitted speed convertor!

When the speed convertor was fitted by the dealer i got the car from, they put it near the ECU and I got exactly the problems you are describing.

When I got my silver dials fitted by Luke he also installed one of his speed convertors and I've had not problems.

So...

If your sensor is OK and we know Lukes convertors work... somebody hasn't fitted it right!

I'd give Luke a call if I were you.
