right, some of you will no doubt have seen the rambligs on on the topless's thread about the best car for money. how about it folks? anyone fancy getting a car for next to nowt that you dont care about and hammering it mercilessly into the ground around a track which it is probably totally out of its depth on? :D

sounds like fun to me. we could even throw a charity element into it and get sponsors for how many laps they cover before they die/get crashed. anyone want to take it up? any moderators or club reps, etc fancy it? post up folks! cant wait:dance:

I've bought myself an s13 for £400 to use as a trackday car, so I'll give it a go.

you got an s13 for £400?

you jammy get. you'll probably win in that!

how about disconnecting the wastegate for the last race? :slap:  :D

It was a bit of a $hitter..... I had to spend nearly £400 again to get it running & through the MOT

  • Author

yeah. £800 is more like it but its still a quick car for the cash. good on yer. im thinking of something like a nluebird turbo or a silvia.

just the idea of a bluebird on a track...

duh, what's an s13 Adam?

An S13 is a Nissan 200SX (with pop up lights!)

S14 is the follow up to that (fixed headlights and new shape)

S14a is the next one (more aggressive looking but nearly same body as S14)

Matty.

Got a golf gti 16v are we allowed to smash into each other or is it for racing only. :D

Fas

well, fas you crazy sod, i was thinking along the lines of light to medium contact. i'd go for full but we dont want anyone hurt and its pretty hard to get hold of a free roll cage each so im thinking something like touring car rules from the early 90's? allowed light front/rear and side by side nudging but no major t-boning, ramming, etc. any thoughts from anyone?

  • Author

ok. im thinking on this one. the basics (if it goes on) would be:

1.

cars must cost max £200 and be legitimately brought.

2.

they must have an MOT, no matter how short on the day.

3.

they must be "road legal" or at least close enough to pass the track scrutineers (if we have any).

3a.

any mods by ripping the car to bits to lighten it are permissable if it isnt structurally derogatory.

4.

the fee for the track time will fall to the entrants and/their spectators so the more we can get the less it will cost.

5.

passengers should be allowed if the track allows it.

6.

donations for the club and/charities should be taken at a minimum of £10 per entrant (only fair as it is for fun).

7.

the decision of the organisers will be final.

8.

NO CHEATING

9.

if you're gonna cheat NO GETTING CAUGHT

10.

the full rules to follow if there is enough interest and/a moderator or club type bod gives it the nod.

HELP ME OUT SOMEONE!!!!

:D :D

and just where do you expect to do this?

There isn't a track/circuit in the country that would let you do this, other than perhaps a banger-racing circuit, but then I've never seen the point in that.

M25?

yes in reality the slightest nudge or anyone having the slightest bit fun taking the corners sideways and the fags with the flags will be waving like it was the jubilee or something, it wouldnt last 5 mins. It would definatly have to be on a grasstrack circuit or something even then there is still regulations regarding the cars that you have to meet. Unfortunatly the American style claims and compensation culture is killing this sort of thing off, its already having an effect on motorbike track days.

Paul

This could be fun, it would be good for a track day,

I'd put a ban on contact though, you'll only get a schumacher type knocking someone off, accidenal knocks absolutely but going into a race event with permission to knock is like racing down essex arena in a crapped out ford escort with its bonnet behind your right ear.

Also I think as long as its road legal any modifications should be allowed as long as they don't cost money, or perhaps a limit of £200 on car and £50 on modifications.

Also what do we do with broken down cars?

Essex arena may cater for this type of event, I'm sure there are plenty of other circuits like them in the UK but thats the only one that i know. (its near lakeside)

count me in for this, will be the best £200.00 you can spend. If the car is fooked at the end of the day get the local gypsies to drag it away for scrap!

ok. so we need somewhere to do it, a date and some backing from the club cuz i dont want to tread on anyones feet. it seems that if we ban contact we have more choice of track but im not sure if thats defeating the point? if we didnt want to touch, surely we would be driving a load of Z's around? but thats all by the by. if no contact is needed, so be it. if we say no contact and there is it has to be accidental or we may get a bad rep.;)

touring cars today run on a "non contact"basis, i believe. how many of them do you see going home after a meeting without a mark?

ok. tomorrow if i get time (a rarity these days) im gonna check out some circuits and what they can do/what the limits are. if anyone else can find out anything in the mean time it will probably be very helpful.

cheers. si.

And just WTF should the club put money into this?

If you're that desperate to do it, you arrange it, along with the marshalls and insurance.

This has NOTHING to do with driving or owning a Z32, and could, IMHO, be more detramental that positive towards the 'club'.

Tim

Back to the subject of BHP per pound how about a Maestro or Montego turbo?? ok, i know they look like s@it and are s@it but they can really shift and are easy to tune and you can pick them up for nothing.

Anyway if you are wearing a crash helmet it will hide the embaressment!

This has NOTHING to do with driving or owning a Z32,

Does that mean we can`t arrange a Karting day out ;)

No, it means that the club shouldn't subsidise it. If local areas want a karting day then they should organise and pay for it. I run the local branch of a Classic Car club, if we want to do a kart day, or a bowling evening, we pay for it ourselves, out of our local area funds, I don't ask the main club to subsidise it.

Hooning around like idiots in £200 bangers IMHO does nothing to premote the 300zx.co.uk 'club', just make it look like a club for twats IMHO.

And before anyone slates me entirely, I too thought about building a track only car, maybe a MkII Golf or a 3 series, but I don't think it's anything to do with the 300zx club. I have a TVR, maybe you'd like to pay for me to go on a track day with that? No, didn't think so, but I am doing track days with TVRCC.

Tim

Have to disagree there Tim, not all club events need to involve the cars. If the club wanted to arrange a meet for everyone in the country, such as a Xmas party or Mid Summer meet which didn`t involve driving the cars then why not chip in to buy the first round of drinks.

As a trader who pays alot more to be a member than the rest but drive a Skyline instead of a Z does that mean i am excluded from all club events because i can`t turn up in a 300.

If i go to Billing will those of us who subscribe but don`t drive a Z be kicked out of the tent, i think not!

This event sounds like a barrel of fun to me and to be honest i don`t really give a toss if it has the clubs backing. This is for a bunch of people who fancy a bit of fun on a track without worrying about a dent on the wing.

Just my 2p

ok. first to "mr.political" TT tim.

I bet you have run for local government, havent you?

The idea was to get the club involved to make it a bit more official.

Im not asking for backing and if you'd bothered to look at some of the posts i've put up on this thread you would see that far from asking for it, im looking to make it a cash earner for the club.

Secondly if you dissaprove of the club having events other than "drive the Z somewhere, then drive back" you are obdviously missing the point of being in the club in the first place.

The idea as i understand it of any owners club is to meet like-minded people with the same interests and there seem to be more people on here that like the idea than those that dont.

Thirdly if you're that desperate to slate off a perfectly good event, WTF dont you try to come up with something origional and offer that instead of shouting down other people who are trying to have fun?

Sorry to all else for having that on the screen but it had to be got off my chest. ;)

Now im looking at an old CRX for 300 ono:D any more offers? :)

just thought i'd point something else out to TT tim...

this thread is in the "general discussion" forum.

for "non-Z related topics" so should this forum not exist?
