hi gents

i ran my engine yesterday as the car has no wheels i cant go very far !!:D

when i first started it the oil presure was high and the engine sounded sweet,

but once it got up to temp and the oil pressure dropped quite low a tappet sound started and it was quite loud!!

as the car was only idling i gave it a few revs and the oil pressure only rose slightly but the tappet noise was still there,

have i any worries or once i am on the road the oil pressure will rise and the sound will go??

cheers

dewi

What oil do you have in there?

I used to get that noise when I put 0-40 in my engine. I changed it to 10-40 and never heard it again.

Its the daddy of motor oil, bit expensive but well worth the peace of mind...;) :slap:

Yeah, its expensive compared to other oils.......but not for what it does.

Your Z deserves it! ;)

In engines that have not been run for a while, sometimes they need to get really warm to free off the lazy lifter...just let it run for a while...

Mine has a noisey tappet if its left for a long time. The noise wont go if i leave it ticking over, however if I drive it, it soon goes.

cheerz, mickey

Sometimes this happens, sometimes the warmth makes a difference. If the oil presure is low in the engine you do need to get the revs up, or the lifter is worn, or both.

I get this on and off on my car and I use it everyday!!!

The more worring thing is that I also get a bit of leaking oil onto the exhaust manifold (I think) as there is sometimes a light cloud of smoke after a little blast (20 minutes or more).

Any ideas???

Cheers

He puts 15/40 Valvoline in. Not tremendously happy myself about having 15/ in in winter so I take it REALLY easy until it's at temperature...

I'll probably put Shell Helix Ultra 10/40 in at the next change.

Don't touch slick 50 with anyone's bargepole, let alone yours!

slick 50 i will keep that in mind,

a few lads at work went to i think it was shell works by stanloe for a tour and they asked there what they thought of the slick stuff and they said it ruins your oil the moment you added it, its better if you jusk keep changing your oil regulary was the reply!!

something to keep in mind
