Pete,

I've been looking for a 300 lately too and, thanks to the info I've gotten from the lads here, I'm now pretty close to forking over some cash.

Click on the "Show topics from" drop-down box at the top of the main thread list, set it to the longest time and click Go, then look for threads called "Looking to purchase...." and "Variations on a theme..." These two will have a lot of the sort of stuff you're after.

Yeah, either take a good Z mechanic or get an RAC/AA check done before you buy. If possible take someone from this forum thats had a Z for a few years... what's your area?

Jez.

Also...

Check www.twintrubo.net, there are loads of posts about buying a second hand car... try the search function.

Apart from that i'd add this...

Insist the car is started from cold and check the smoke colour, if any, rev it a little.

Make sure the boost Needle rises most of the scale, once that car is warm.

CHECK for modifications under the bonnet, Ask if the ecu has been modified!

Check the gears don't crunch when changed quickly, all of them. (Don't know about autos)

Check wheel/car judder, pull at vaious speeds, under acceleration, breaking and constant speed (worn Tension rods, discs, wheel alignment)

Check suspension at all corners, press down and check left & right are even.

Get the log book, then phone the last garage or two. Nissan told me exactally what work was done over the last two years on mine and how much was spent.

If it's a garage, look at the reg doc and phone the previous owner to ask why it was sold, any crashes, major repairs.

Well, you are not far then pete (I'm in High Wycombe), but the car isn't quite within range!!!

Hi Jools,

That a nice amoumt of power, do you know what the power was before and after the ported heads?

Have you done the old rolling road business, gotta know!

Jez,

Thats a bit weird the car i'm looking at in Leeds is yellow as is yours and you don't see many that colour around.

It would be quite cool to hook up with you some time and have a look at your z.

since i've never even sat in a ZX. And i'd like to see what that yellow looks like in the flesh so to speak.

Later Pete

Pete,

Don't look under Jez's bonnet - it looks like someone's washed the engine with crude oil - they're not all like that !
