Ticking noise from behind left front wheel? Any ideas?

Doubt it's the water pump - that is slap bang in the middle of the engine at the front.. Stick a long screwdriver on the top metal coolant hose - and your ear on the screwdriver top - if you hear that ticking, it's the water pump (probably)

Is it in the arch itself? AIV's are down there (although they usually gurgle, not tick).. The starter relay is behind the wheel trim (in front of the door) - maybe that is faulty and ticking when it shouldn't be?

Can I have my watch back now please biggrin.gif

Is it definitely behind the wheel arch? Sometimes the pcv valves make this noise when they are on their way out but these are at the back of the plenum.....

CheerZ,

Andy

Yep its defo behind the left front wheel. Is'nt there a carbon canister or something behind there? along with the intercooler on that side.

I thought jap spec didnt have AIV's.

Andy, sorry mate sold the watch biggrin.gif

Trev

OK Just got off my arse and read your profile wink.gif

A 90 - so it should have AIV's.. Pretty sure all Z's had them before 1993

Aircon pump maybe ?

Try if ticking sound changes when aircon is switched on/off

Can you describe the ticking? How often does it tick?

CheerZ,

Andy

Trev, you haven't been upsetting people have you? Banging someone elses Mrs. etc.

We know where you live son...'an all that!!! We can get to you night and day...know what I mean?

Tim

;-)

P.S. Ever seen the final scene, or start depending on which way you look at it, of Casino with DeNiro getting in the car...Hmmmmm!!! Got a cocker spaniel that could sniff out C-4...and I ain't talking smelly either??? LMAO!

It still ticks when the aircon is off or on.

The ticking rises when the revs rise, but it is not from the top end because you cant hear it with the bonnet open only when your along side the left front wheel confused.gif

Its just been serviced so the oil levels are good, unless your going quickly it sounds like an old 2.8 Granada to the public frown.gif

Tim I dont know anyone smart enough to make a bomb, let alone catch me with their wife biggrin.gif biggrin.gif

These Zeds are quite quick dont ya know!

Trev

Could be a bad coilpack.

Unplug the connector of the coils on the "ticking" side, one by one and see if the ticking goes away

It could also be a leak in the tube that runs from the AIV to the exhaust

-Eric

When was the last time you had the oil changed??? The type of oil can make a HUGE difference to the sound of your engine!!!

CheerZ,

Andy
