Message for BOB!

Mate,

My ICE saga continueth! Remember I had a Blaupunked head unit fitted in my Merc? It was tripping whenever the volume was turned up so I thought it might have been the unit was faulty. Anyway, went back to Halfords and had a nicer Sony fitted, still doing it.

Guy at Harrys reckons that it could be power related, but I'm getting 12v steady on my volt meter. Or could be the speakers grounding, shorting whatever as they haven't exactly been fitted properly by the muppett that had the car before me.

Rockford Fosgate speakers should have been delivered by the weekend. Are you about over the weekend mate? Coz if you are I would like you to have a look and see what you think...I can drop the money in for the diffuser while I'm at it.

Sony tape unit that was taken out originally was fine so what gives??? Mystery!

If you really mean 12v, then it's low. With the engine running you would expect nearer 13.5v (ish). Anyway, current matters more than volts, but I don't thing either would cause it to cut out (trip?), fade a bit perhaps ....

I would be thinking about speakers and/or crossovers if you have them. What impedence are the speakers ? Do they match the head/amp ?

Yes Mr. P! I was thinking along the same lines...13.84 volts if you wanna split hairs over it...LOL!

That's what I was gonna do first, rewire all the speakers with pukka oxygen free cable. Existing stuff looks like it's come off the back of Bush £99 home record player speakers! CRAP!

Fosgates are going out today so I should have them by the weekend.

Could be power though, I was messing about with it last night and I had the door open so the courtesy light was on. When I cranked the volume up the light was flickering/dimming so that's not a good sign. Not to mention that there is an earth or ground cable not attached in the engine bay. Merc said that it should be attached the the side of the engine but fooked if I can see where it attaches so I just taped up the end...Hmmmmm???
