Evening Zoiksterz

Now then, im most interested in the old underdrive pulley thang.

1st question would be, as my car was bought with certain 'ahem' subtle mods all ready in place, how would I tell if my car has one fitted already?

2nd Q, if it doesn't have said circular performance enhancementage, what does the replacement underdrive pulley offer in terms of performance etc.

i have heard it is possibly the best modification you can make to the vg30De (all things considered) and can i fit it myself or does it need balancement to be done professionally?

I dont mind gettin dirty and greasy under the old batmobile, but am no expert smile.gif

Ta chaps and have a good evening.

1: Big black pulley - no (or rather 99% no). Smaller silver/blue/red/funky pulley.. Yes..

2: Easy to fit yourself if you have a sprocket puller thingy, but you gotta take the timing belt off to do it.. And that's not the easiest thing in the world.. Even I'm wary of timing belts - too many teeth out putting it back on and bingo bango bongo, new valves please....

The replacement doesn't have the auto balancing mechanism inside, but general concensus is that it doesn't do any long term damage to the engine - and no, there's no balancing to be done (AFIAK - someone correct me if I'm wrong?)

You dont have one senna, not that i could see.

im not convinced about them myself, if you look at alot of the top zeds in japan (this is according to my options mag) they dont use them much.

but they are very popular in japan.

I think S.E Put one on crazeee edddeees car, ask him

They're definitely a good idea on the VG30DE, but on the VG30DETT we have boost to get more power from..

However there are many arguable benefits to getting more power at less boost.. For a start, if you've maxed out on standard turbos, a UD pulley is gonna be a good way of getting more BHP without stepping up in turbos (however, if you've maxed out standard turbos, you probably should step up .. and will probably have to soon when the turbo's die anyway wink.gif )..

Possibly (and this is just a guess) they don't use them on the big power cars because they are high revving, and the UD pulley is lacking the auto balancer? Might make a difference at > standard top revs (where you'd be to make full use of a massive turbo I imagine)...

Just a thought..

No, the tbelt does not have to come off. You remove the radiator, fan shroud, clutch fan, fan, upper & lower radiator hoses. That's it. No need to remove the tbelt cover.

Hi Senna,

Got the SE pully on my car and found the car was a bit snappier off boost, handy for those quick blips onto mini roundabouts.

Rolling road test showed a 15 hp improvement.

Worth asking around and also check TT net as there can be mixed opinions on whether to get one or not.

Thanks Eddie, Az, Phuong and the Wazzmeister!

It actually low revs grunt i am after.

Since I hit 30 years of age I have found myself 'pootle-ing' around town... only joking and thanks warren, i didnt think the batwaggon had a pulley either smile.gif

If the pulley would offer up some more horses between 1000ish and 2500ish rpm then i would definately go for it.

Sorry for my ignorance but its all new to me smile.gif

Peace

Glen

Peeps have been using in the States for years now and so far from what I've seen on TT.net there doesn't appear to be many probs. I got an ASP from Phuong but not fitted yet, will see how my car is running after SE before whacking it on.

Only issue is with ICE, if you are running a monty system you may lose some beef from the alternator. But again, this hasn't been seen to be a problem from anyone who already has a pulley.

;-)

Had mine for a few years, no probs
