Just got a dual format +/- 4 speed burner. My problem is when I am ready to burn if I put a + disk in the speed settings default to maximum and the disk burns at 4 speed.

But if i put a - disk in the speed setting goes to 1x and greys out so you cant change it. The burner is supposed to do both formats at 4x.

I have tried a couple of different brands of disk and its no different, i am using nero 6.0.0.23

this may sound daft but if you're using yellow disks then they are single speed, my dvd copier using nero 6 does plus and minus at 4 speed provided I use red 4speed disks

I dont think its down to the yellow/red discs there are many different coloured discs.

 

Might be nero though, try putting a new serial code in, when i changed mine to a 4x writer it didnt burn properly unitl i put a different serial number in now its fine :D

sorry , i should have said that the red have 4x printed very faintly on them and yellow have 1x faintly printed on them--- so make sure you're media is rated for the speed you want, it's a mistake I made, I've just managed to off load a sh*t load off 1x speed cause I didn't check the speed properly

Updating the firmware of the drive seems to have done it but its still not keen on the really cheap disks but i can live with that.

Can anyone reccomend some good software for stripping off the extras on DVDs to get the size down. I have been having a look at DVD shrink but it only lets you compress them and not remove them.
