When did you see your very first 300ZX TT?......

...It was 1990, and I was driving through Birmingham in a company Astra.I had seen pictures in car magazines of the new Zed...But nothing prepared me for seeing one in the metal!

It was cruising through the rush hour traffic looking modern, mean and moody.I think it was metallic grey...and had steam wisping from the quad exhaust pipes in the slow moving traffic.

I thought..at £35K I will never be able to own one of those beauties! All the other drivers were craning their necks to see it, and passers by were doing a double take!...some things never change!

I think it was in '92

Trying to keep up with it in my Peugeot 205GTI..big mistake ! biggrin.gif

I cant remember the first one I saw, not really very many around here, ive only seen 1 in this area. But ppl still turn and take a look, then a second look at it when ur drivin it. biggrin.gif

This is an apt tale! LOL!

First time I saw one properly? Top Gear, many moons ago, a slot on this guy who had bought one from a Nelson Mandela...back in the day evidently! As you'd be hard pushed to find a 300ZX sharing the playground with the likes of the money makers e.g. Microbes and Primate-ras!

Anyway, this guy had bought this motor, twin tub and paid something like 23K for it! Turns out it was a shed, he then got the RAC out to inspect it which turned up loads of nasteys...

He'd gone through about 3 batteries, car was leaking from all over the place everytime it rained, it had been in a rear end smack in its lifetime... etc. etc. etc.

So the whole point of this was...

"Hey, look at me in my 23K motor, must be a minter coz I bought it from a main dealer and they guarantee all their vehicles!"

WRONG!

A bit like what happened to Network Q not so long ago, selling dodgey cars even though they brag about a 120 point safety and delivery check...my ARSE!

So, it wasn't a happy tail but I still loved the cars...awesome on the road back then and still are now.

Only about a 8 monts ago. I was looking for a new car for a while and I went through many choises. Each choice I spent time looking at starts and reviews and went onto sites to ask peoplw about the cars. I went through Golf GTI, then the VR6, Calibra Turbo, Rover Tomcat Turbo, Mitsubishi Starion, RX7 (Older one) to name a few. I was all set to get my self a Sierra Cosworth.

Then some one I knew was telling me that they where getting a 200sx. I didnt want one cos I knew teh Sierra was better. I looked it up anyway on autotrader to get the price.

Hold on. I thought, they made a 300, I'll look for a laugh. To my suprise it was in my price range. Ahhhh bet the insturance was way higher. I did a quote on Tesco.com. Hmmmm It was £350 cheaper than the Sierra Cosworth. Cosworth or ZX. My mind was changed again. I had only seen them in pictures then.

Anyway, going to town when I see a car for sale. It looked like a ZX. WOW! It was. I fell in love. He told me it came in that morning. I sat in it and fell in love. It was an import. L reg NA with only 25,000 miles on the clock. I showed it to my friends every time we went by and said ' I'm getting one of those ' None of them believed me. But I have one now, and they still dont believe me.

I know some one who saw it at the 1989 motor show. They where giving out Aluminium ZX key rings. Hes gonna send me one.

Stuart.

1991 it was a sunday night and we were at the races in JHB, there were some very quick little cars there, a UNO TURBO WITH Nitrous, was wasting everybody, the had a few bmw 330 with gas aswell, anyway they were racing about 1.6 miles i think from one bridge under the one we were standing on, so this 300zx tt rocks up looking beutifull, the guy in the uno laughs and of they go, we all wait with baited breat anyway we see the lights and the 300zx comes up off the off ramp and stops before the uno had come through ..... BAHAHAHAHAHA i was awestruck to say the least, and its taken me 9 years to get one lol

First time I ever saw a Z was several years ago at school. It was down here for the Summer Festivals and parading through the town center (youngish guy with dark hair, dark glasses and arm sticking otu the window). The passenger sat with me blurted out "Christ! What's that !?" only to receive the response..*shrugs shoulders* "I dunno... don't like it though".

I 'think' it was that red one in the SE video that was posted on here a while back (with the 300ZX written on the side)..I did ask but no-one responded.

Anyhow... never saw one again till last year when I was looking to bring over either an MR2 or a GT4 from Japan. My contact sent me the pic's of the MR2 and I loved it (the one on the GTRimports site in fact) and I was all set to part with the 'mo-honey', when he sent the details of the Z. Still didn't care as I wanted the MR2... but he sent the pic's that night and as soon as I saw her, I fell in love. Didn't care what the insurance was going to cost.. I just had to have her. Everyone told me I was being foolish and was going to be ripped-off or be stuck with a lemon (literally as well as mechanically) but to me it was worth the risk. Funny how the same people 1 year on are telling me I'm being foolish to sell such a lovely looking car.

I was driving along Ilford Lane in April 1991 and I did a double take. Whooah, what the hell is that bright yellow thing in that AFG (used to be part Nissan UK)showroom? When I go in and look I can't believe it's a Nissan. £35k. I chased the guy for a test drive but he never came back to me. Can you believe that, (you can in a Nissan, remember that ad campaign)we're in the middle of a recession and he can't be bothered to follow up a lead for a £30k+ car.

After that I saw just two on the road. The prices came down and I Eventually found an accomodating dealer (Dan Perkins in Waltham X)who gave me a test drive. I took delivery of my car on 8th August 1991 and paid £28,995. My brother bought a 200 at the same time. When he took his to be serviced to AFG they asked him why he never came to them for a quote. It makes you wonder!

I still think it's one of the best looking cars around, and the best ever from Japan.

Grant

1991, Washington DC: The cutest, sexiest neighbour (18yr old of the female persuasion) got one as a graduation present (yes, parents were absolutely loaded with a $700k house, Aston Martin, NSX and two BMW M5's). It was a 2+0 TT in pearl white (not my fav colour but who cares). In the summer she used to wash it religiously every Sunday in her bikini - Ahhhhh, I will never forget that image ... She had an asshole of a boyfriend who consequently totalled the car two years later. Alas, no more bikini shots ....

Cheers!

Hi,

I think I remember that Top Gear programme...didn't the car turn out to be a rebuilt write off or a cut and shut, or something?
