MSN microphone?

Whats that? You mean using a Mic on messenger? Its good as long as both ends have fast connections. You are better getting the head set ones, as normal stand along mics cause you to get an echo when speaking.

Stuart

I thought the whole point of Messenger was the fact that you could look like you were working when you were actually talking to a mate.

Or do you mean your Mrs:D;)?

Iain,

I've used a mic to speak to SRRAE on messenger, it works quite well.

But as Stu says, it's best if you have a fast connection.

Cool what model you got Dave headset or free standing?

It doesnt matter what you have. Its what the other person has which is the problem. Because as you speak and it sound on the other persons speakers, their microphone then pics up you taking and sends it back to you. Resulting in you being able to hear yourself with a 1 seconds delay. Its very off putting and you actually struggle to speak. Its very strange.

Go Dixons or Currys and they sell the head sets there. They can cost from £10 to £50. Dont go for the £10 ones they are not too good. Aim for the £20 ones.

I use ones I got with a thing called a Game Voice, so you can control computer games with vocal inputs. It can also be used for other things too.

If one user has broadband and another has a modem, you can use it but the speach will keep breaking up. It is usually because the modem user is in a queue with their server or they are browsing the internet at the same time.

It is good, as it saves money over phone calls and obviously you can talk faster than you can type. I think you can have more than 1 person in the conversation too. Maybe good for forum moderators meetings. ;)

Stuart

Mine's a cheapo free-standing one - not had any problems with that.

But as you always say Mac: "you only get what you pay for" ;)

Dave

Yeah. Dave didnt have any problems with that, but I could hear myself through his computer when I spoke to him.

Sure it wasn't your own echo in your bedroom?

I use a Plantronics headset and its top quality for a decent price, I play alot of online gaming so I need good clear sound both ways.

I dont know what make my head set it but it is really good quality. Its a Microsoft set but they would buy it from some one else. The earphones are great and the mic is nice and clear.

What Stu is describing is very basic feedback. This can easily be avoided by careful adjustment of your microphone sensitivity (or gain) and the volume setting for your speakers. It also helps if your speakers aren't pointing directly at the mic!

I have had fairly succesful tests using a very basic desk stand type mic for web-phone conversations with US users.

It does get quite difficult with multiple users unless you have a means to ensure that you don't all try to speak at once - ie, you speak in turn and wait for your turn to speak!

(anyway, is this some weird attempt to get your phenomenal post rate down!??? 22. something a day! ) :D

Why don't you get a Webcam with built in microphone, they are pretty cheap and you and BigRoy can enjoy more realistic cyber sex :D
