Tick.... Tick... Tock... Tick....

My Zed has been making a strange noise and has only surfaced in the last couple of days.

The noise sounds a bit like a clock (tick. tock.) but the sound is not is sequence (ie, tick, tick, tock tick, tock etc.)

Any Ideas?.

Cheers. :)

Ah, that'll be a bomb that your neighbour-from-hell has hidden in the boot.

Seriously - where IS it coming from?

Forgot to mention, the sounds seems to be coming from behind the dash.

I've got that as well! High pitched and quite faint though - seems most noticable when cold and just from start up when accelerating for the first couyple of mins..

Odd

Ah, I think I know what you mean!

Trust me........charge your battery! ;) And let me know if this has cured it.

Thanks James.

I have been doing quite a few short trips over the last couple of weeks and obviously heater, lights etc all on. Sounds like you are onto something!.

Do you know what is causing the noise? (Just out of curiosity)

Well to me it sounded like a relay clicking.........I have it a few times and charging the battery has always done the trick.

Of course.........it could be something different on yours but well worth a go.

Good point. I will check it out at the weekend....

Cheers James.

It wont be the battery on mine - I know the click you mean for that one - mines much more subtle.....maybe AIV related as its in the drivers corner.

Oh well!

Check the adjustment of the TPS. The throttle may be right on the edge of the hard idle switch on/off point...

(Just another "clicky" kinda noise it could be)

Bilky - I have a similar nose to you, check one of the banks of the engine to see if its coming from there, general consensus is that it may be a hydraulic tappet when the engine is cold making the noise......

That's what Phil at C&S said it was... and he's just rebuilt it after a gasket change, so he oughta know. It does it when cold and it will do it when standing after a bit of a thrash, but it generally goes quiet when the engine is under load. Guess it must sit better when fluids are actually going through it under pressure?

I also have a faint noise sometimes from behind the speedo ish, I think it's AC related.

Does the noise happen when the engine is not running ?

Open the bonnet, got round the drivers side lean over and just gently press the throttle cable. It doesn't need to rev but you may be able hear the relays clicking as you do it.

I beleive it is only with the engine running. I am going to listen again tonight and try and figure out if it is anything that has been suggested.

I'll bring my conZult on Sunday mate and we'll have a look at it for you.

Not that it will show up on a conZult but we can run a diag anyway :D.

This mysterious clicking noise... what causes it?

I ask because I've got something similar, and my "power" light flashes a few times when starting the car. (Never once running though.) Makes me wonder if my battery isn't quite the full juice... ?

Can't be for want of charging, I've done nearly 1000 miles since getting it back, all good long runs.

The noise I experienced has now gone without me doing anything?.. So I can't help you out on this one.

The noise is back, and with a vengence. I have located where it is coming from. The battery has been checked, and it only happens when the engine is running.

It is somewhere over the passengers side down by/in the wing!?. Any ideas welcome!.

Cheers

is it behind the wheel arch?(behind wheel) have you drained AIV valves?

its more of a gurgle than a tick though

Thanks Mike

I am going to listen again tonight, but I think it's more of a tick. Thanks for the link, I am going to have a nosey...

Deffo a ticking kind of noise. It is there most of the time but does stop for a short period now and again.

How difficult is it to take the wing off?...

Cheers

Hi,

I had too strange noise (tic tic tic) few months ago. It has been very difficult to locate the noise.

I think a "tic tic" could be came from hydraulic lifters. It could be the timing belt tensioner too. In my case it was this tensioner, it was dead and the belt had an interval with the tensioner, and so it provoked the noise!

You must locate precisely where the noise come from.

Stéphane.
