Well I think people would take the mickey but we have all done it :slap: :D

Try: switching your ignition off and coasting to save fuel, then realising the steering lock's come on.

And you have no brakes

Take the piss? OK

Ha-Ha you where driving a golf!

On a hot day whilst having been in the car for quite a long journey I had the good idea to take my jumper off

I made sure that there was no oncoming traffic and it was a straight stretch of road

Luckily my monkeylady was there to take the wheel when it got stuck over my head. Won't be trying that again ...

That's simians for ya

:slap:

Still reckon the scariest thing to happen in my Z was the throttle getting stuck full on. Sounds like I'm the only person this has happened to tho. Or maybe everyone else is brown-bread?! Apparently it can happen to any of them tho... worth keeping an eye on how far out those pipes coming from the rocker-cover are protruding.

LOL @ James  This could be a thread on dumbass things we've all done :D

Do a search on trapping your head in your electric window

Oop - here it is: http://www.300zx.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=19390

Oh and those who were at Pod the other week - you know I said my pass elec window had stopped working? Well theres this little button on the driv door which says something like "Pass window lock"... :o Took me a week to sort that one out after having the door trims off...:D

LOL........I remember your post about trapping your head in the window!! Made me laugh. :D

So lets have some more dumbass things...............

Ive done the trip thing....

Urm I replaced my battery once, all went well and car turned over fine, put stereo in and the bloody thing wouldn't come on, I scratched my head for 2 days, checking over the battery connections and looking in for any codes id need to put in, then I was hit by enlightenment and pressed the button on the stereo which read "on" and on she came :)

I've done something similar, thought I'd be smart and take the ket out as I turned into a parking space, steering lock came on, no brakes, ran into a wall!!!:o

Not in the Zed though :D:D:D

Mike

I put a Rover V8 into a cortina years ago, when you floored it the engine moved just enough to jam the steering, (it touched the UJ). Made for interesting races from the lights as you had NO STEERING until you backed off.

I was changing the starter motor on the Z and I was obviously underneath and very cramped for room. At my work there is a garage with a pit, but its only a teasingly shallow pit, there is no way you can stand up! I was taking the old one off and didn't disconnect the battery. My screwdriver must've gone across the live feed and the body and BANG/FLASH! I nearly welded the screwdriver to the fookin car. I fell backwards in the pit into a lovely muddy puddle - that had probably been sitting in the pit for about 10 years. It smelt worse than Pete Shrimp's best aftershave.

So got the new starter motor, had the old re-con'd as it goes. It took them a few days to do it so I was keen to get it back on and drive the Z. Disconnected the battery this time, rewired the motor.

Got back in the Z....went to start it and nothing! .....fookin dead as a dodo. I was well p1ssed off, thought I had wired it up wrong or not made a proper connection somewhere. So got back under, took it off......put it back on.......still nothing.......FOOK IT. The auto-electricians have stitched me up?

No........my auto box was in "drive" and of course won't start when its in gear.

:slap: :slap: :slap: :slap:

When my CAS connector was playing up , the car stalled at a junction and would not re-start , just dead as a dodo , caused a massive traffic jam and even called the AA out then realised about 20 mins later the car was still in drive (auto) and of course would not start, put in in park and the car started straight away , pulled off pretty damm quick a little red faced to say the least.

 :D

Picked up an Audi 80 auto and on the drive back home i stopped at some traffic lights and selected neutral, the lights then changed to green and i went to put the car in drive, but the shifter wasn't moving, on came the hazards and the horns behind me were going mental, after stressing out and about ripping the gearshift off the car i noticed a little instruction, " when stationary press the brake down to release gears" I was so fooked off i floored it and about went into the back of an artic.:D :slap:

ARE YOU LOT ALL BLONDE OR WHAT!!!!! LMFAO!!! :slap:  :slap:

My most recent one (and a warning to you all) was chasnging the door cards. Took the old ones off, removed all the plasric bits and bobs, which are all marked left and right, except for the little pieces that go around the door opening lever. They both look exactly the same, even fit the opposing door, so fitted them both, lovely. Took the car down the garage, filled up with optimax, went to pay locking the car on the key fob (a thing I never do in garages, I know you are supposed to ) came back to the car beeped the key fob, lights flashed tried to open the door, didnt budge. Feeling a bit silly, thinking had hit the button twice, beeped again, checking the flashes, still couldnt open the door. Of course by this time car is looking to use the pump, me trying to rip the door handle off. Decided to use my newly cut NISMO key to open the door instead, doesnt work (the cut was poor anyway and still doesnt open the door). Guy looking to use the pump is staring at me, round to passenger door, key got stuck in the lock!

Had to call Mrs Jock to bring down the spare, luckily not far, and explaing to the guy that i couldnt get into my own car. (had to be nice, very difficult for me when i have the hump).

Long story short , the two catch surrounds, though similiar, are different enough to foul the latch, the will lock, but not unlock without a load of grief. So beware :)

I was working on my Z with the bonnet up, driver's window down, filling up the radiator, and trying to get rid of the air locks. Kept starting the car for a bit, then stopping to refill. All was well until I pressed the button on my keys to release the immobiliser (meant to be done with the key turned to on position). Panic ensued as the autoclosure shut the window in my face, to be followed by the piercing screams of the alarm going off.

Took thirty minutes to get my spare keys and shut it up.

Exit all street cred - stage left!!!

This one is my dad's funny thing not mine. Well its not him with the funny thing.

years and years ago my dad did loads of work on cars welding and stuff because money was short. One day he was welding underneath the car. As people know weld know, that the sparks fly every where and often burn small holes in your clothes and if any fall on cloth interior it could set fire to it.

Anyway, welding away with sparks flying a few landed inside the back seats as he was welding under the rear seats and had the door open. A fire started, but luckly a neighbour was walking by. He noticed the fire starting to brew in the rear seats and asked

"Colin? Are you under there?" Enquiring if my dad was under the car. My dad replied yes, and the neighbour said OK and went on his way.

A few mins later my dad appeared from under the car because he could smell the fire, and quickly put it out. He asked this neighbour why he didnt tell him the seats where on fire when he saw it. He replied,

"I thought you needed it like that"

I had a mate who turned off the ignition on his mini clubman whilst he was driving along. God knows why he did it mind but the steering lock came on and he ended up going straight into a corner. :slap: He wrote his car off. Luckily no one was hurt. I p!ssed myself laughing when he told me about it, couldn't help myself.

What a plonker, the neighbour I mean!

I did exactly the same thing with my TR7  , the rear carpets set on fire, they were well on the way by the time I noticed. I had to put the fire out with a bottle of lemonade! Luckily the seats didn't get cooked.:o

I hope you guys don't mind a GTO owner posting here, but....

I blew the engine running too much boost, then spent 4 months rebuilding it to make it work.

After getting it running for the first time I put it in the garage only to notice the lights wouldn't turn off. Tried everything and eventually disconnected the battery for the night. This went on for a couple of days (connecting then disconnecting) until I found out that pressing the foglight button (by accident) turns the sidelights on. As my foglights don't work, I had no idea that this happened.

Steve

PS, hope you can laugh even harder at GTO owners misfortunes.

I fell out of a boat once trying to find the source of a missfire. Got a shock off one of the HT leads and fell over the side :o
