Hello all,

Could someone please tell me if the air con is on constantly when the heaters are on and what does the "AMB .." figure represent?

Thanks

Ant

Oh managed to change the sidelight bulb - thanks to the people who guided me. Nice to see Nissan made things simple!!;)

Hi Ant

The AMB figure is the outside Ambient temperature. The aircon will always be on if you set your system to Auto. It will be more noticeable if the system is set to a temperature lower than the current cabin temp... When cabin temp reaches the set level, the system should settle down and make only small adjustments as necessary.

AMB = Ambient - i.e. what the temperature sensor thinks it is outside.

The aircon system is very complex - so best read about it in the heater and airconditioning section of the manual here. http://www.300zx.co.uk/cgi-bin/manual.cgi

If you've got the type with Up down arrows changing the temp and then three buttons Recirc Econ Off with two buttons on the left Hi Low then you've go the type described as

The automatic climate control is fussy, noisy and too often blows cold air at you unnecessarily.
lol

You can't change the balance of where it chooses to blow air, nor adjust the tem difference between feet / body / head - it does all this for you according to some fiendish little program.

All you can do is to set the temperature you want and push the Auto button.

In addition, you can select a special demist setting.

Also fan speed hi / low. Recirc does what you'd think and econ actually turns the aircon off but leaves the fans running. IIRC

Thanks for your help:)

So if I put it on Econ that should save me petrol and performance??

Cheers

That's the theory - but in reality I find that the Econ mode makes my windows steam up after about 10 minutes :( Might just be my system though ;)

I now run with the climate control set to auto all the time

Yes I would guess so - if you drive along at a steady speed and switch Econ on and off (while Auto is on) I think you can tell the difference.

For a fuller explanation, see pages HA-95 and HA-96 on tht manual link I gave you.

When a temperature for the cabin is set using the TEMP SET switch, the ATC system calculates an initial target temperature based on information from the various ATC system sensore. This target temperature is continuously updated to bring the cabin temperature to the set temperature in the most confortable way possible for the occupants. (The program for this was made after careful study of comfort levels related to car interiors).

Good grief lol

Yes it disconnects the aircon compressor so you will get more mpg but as far as performance goes when you boot it the ECU switches it off anyway to give you some extra power!

If you have a Jap Auto you will notice the Power light also comes on on the the dash while it's doing it.

If you find your car is steaming up with it switched off then you must have a lot of damp in the car.

Leave the windows down on a warm day and it should eventually clear.

Having the aircon on will always clear your windscreen in super quick time because it dehumidifies the air so you are not blowing more damp air at the screen.

Chris.

Just to correct an earlier item - it is possible to set tolerances for the system in a set up mode (cant remember how to do it - there was a write up somewhere) where you can set the balance temps for feet etc to be higher than other areas in order of degrees.

If I can find it I'll post it but I think it was part of the diagnostic readings.
