...What do you think of these cars?

Rear.jpg

Personally, I love the styling and would consider a Twin Turbo import GTO instead of a Z!

Do yourself a favour and drive one first they are crap...

look good though

In all the reviews I've read they dont paint a pretty picture of the 3000GTO.

Most complain about the weight and the effect is has on the handling.

Evo magazine rated it 1 Star! (Z got 4 biggrin.gif )

Jeremy Clarkson said in Top Gear mag

front engined… four-wheel drive… four-wheel steer… active aerodynamics… compulsive eater…...None of the cars here handles badly but the Mitsubishi made us wonder...If it could shed about two tons, it might be in with a chance.

Like Warren said drive a few first... a 93 3000GTO I tried reminded me of my old XJS and didnt like being thrown around twisty roads unlike the Zed does.

However Mr Henri Le Hir has a 3000GTO I belive so may be able to give you a better idea of what these are like.

Yeah, Warren is right. I was looking at one of these before I considered a Z. Look great, then I drove one. Oh my God. What a POS!!

I went to the motorshow and spoke to a guy on the Mitsubishi stand about it and he said that it was known to have a crap drive. He said it was spoiled by electronics which remove all the feel and fun from driving one.

I'd stay away but drive one for yourself and make you own mind up if you are serious about getting one.

Andy

Shame!...They are great looking cars..I've not driven one though...Just admired them from a distance!

JEZ

Yeah, I nearly got seduced by one in the US. They have a somewhat cooler name over there - the Dodge Stealth, except they handle even worse due to the soggy suspension.

The 3000 GT, a bad car confused.gif ???

Well, I know that journalists....are just journalists....if they were good, they would own cool cars, not write about them...anyway

I know these cars....a "little"...

First of all, have a look at the [ www.3si.org ] (and keep in mind that people are complaining about things that do NOT work !!)

Performance wise, the Z32 and the Stealth / 3000 GT are VERY close in stock form, provided you KNOW how to drive them.

Neither the Z32 nor the Stealth are 1/4 mile cars (for different reasons), but both are in the "Japanese Supercars" territory (with the Toyota Supra and the Honda/Acura NSX)

Based on reports from e-friends in the state, be ready to face the same problems in the Nissan and in the Mitsu....in both cases, dealers do NOT know how to maintain them.

In both cases, Internet is your friend, and you'll get support from fellow drivers.

You can modify both cars to the 400 Hp range (the 3000 being cheaper to mod), then the 3S is a lot more expensive to modify.

IMHO, the Z has a better quality, but the 3s is certainly better than an Audi / BMW, so that's fine for me.

In both cases, I'd suggest that you get the dealer's manual (available on CD) to help you fix the car.

Both cars are not terribly hard to maintain. You can find "how to" on the net, and e-order parts.

Something you MUST be aware....do NOT get a 3S with a bad gearbox. These gearboxes are made by Getrag (a.k.a. Getrash by the 3S people) and you CANNOT repair them...you MUST exchange them....and that's VERY expensive....

Something nice about the 3S.....ANYONE can drive that car fast...even on rain or snow....the AWD really makes a difference.

And when I see the amount of kids (del del del del del) on this board who complain about losing control of the Z in the rain.... smile.gif

It's true that the typical UK weather does absolutely NOT require an AWD car...because it's always DRY and SUNNY in UK...and all UK drivers are excellent...

Besides that, you can get either car, you will not be disappointed. If you have further questions, feel free to e-mail me

Zee you

Henri

Who faces the dilemna to choose, every morning, between a manual Z, an Auto Z and a Manual Stealth....life's hard..

Hi,

Watched 'Deals on Wheels' tonight...Guy looking for an Audi TT...tried a Mitsu' 3000GT as an alternative, and seemed impressed with the acceleration!...He still wanted to buy the TT, though!

Glad you noticed! biggrin.gif What a great place we live in having to pay high road tax for crap roads, high petrol prices and still cant find 98RON etc etc ho hum. But UK drivers are indeed excellent. biggrin.gif

Jez have a look at http://www.gtouk.org.uk its got some good sections.

LMAO! Sorry mate, gotta back up Mr. Le Hir here...GTO's are a fuckin' quick motor, make no mistake! I know, I went head to head with one in my Z on the way back from Abergele Nissan after they gave me arse news about my car. So, you're all sayin'...

"Yeah, but Tim, your car is Phuket or was Phuket at the time!"

WRONG! My car may have had stalling problems and an arse idle but believe me it drove rapidly when givin' the right foot moon boot treatment.

I couldn't get passed this guy, hitting about 135/140 and fuck off right now...don't care about "on a private road" etc. Had 140mph outta the Capt. Kirk tonight on the A55, would have a bit more but had to slow down for the shallow bend approaching and it was dark...at least I could see where I was going in advance...LOL!

GTO's are a very nice car, I love all automotive that is Japanesey Cantonesey! I love me Z but these are a rapid motor. I made the big mistake of thinking that this particular GTO was restricted as he was sporting IMPORT plates, no way jose...I did keep up with him but I wasn't gettin' past and he wasn't gettin' away! I rest my case! Fact is always better than fiction, read what you like in any mag. or watch on smelly but when it comes down to you and him on the road it's a different kettle of fish altogether.

I read that Scooby Impizza Turbo does 0-60 in about 5.8 or so, so how did I used to cain the crap outta them in my Toyota Supra then? Supposed 0-60 of about 7 secs.

Tim

;-)

...more to add, as usual, only reason I steered away from GTO was that they didn't do Autos in TT guise...otherwise I'd have been there! Supra does auto. but I couldn't afford it, although by the time I'm finished with the Z I could've bought a fuckin' 911! Oh well, gotta love 'em or spend on 'em! LOL!

I've been lookin at the Honda NSX lately, what with the prob's I've been having, but 20 grand for a 92 NSX! not when my battered Zed can almost match it for performance in its current dented and 11yr old glory! I'm keep wanting to stick with the Z just so long as nothing else breaks, splits or get hit by other drivers! rolleyes.gif

Trev,

"My cars been on RobotWars don't ya know"

but tim your car was done by S.E Bahahahahahahahahahaha only joking...

have you got a price out of them yet, and a date?

read that Scooby Impizza Turbo does 0-60 in about 5.8 or so, so how did I used to cain the crap outta them in my Toyota Supra then? Supposed 0-60 of about 7 secs.

Because......

The "average" Sub Impreza Driver is a previous FWD car, and has absolutely NO idea how to get the most of the AWD.

To be honest, 99.99% of you Z drivers do not have the SLIGHTEST idea about how to use it as well..

Most drivers know how to use a FWD car, a LOT less a RWD car (losing control on snow...hey.. smile.gif ), and if AWD cars are EASY to drive, they are NOT easy to exploit to their max performance.

The correct way to launch a Subaru Turbo (Legacy, or Impreza), and a 3000GT / Stealth (and most if not all) Turbo AWD is the following.

Depress clutch fully

Engage 1st gear

Depress accelerator fully, until your engine is hitting the rev limiter.

Very important !! (won't work without it)

Shout "Enterprise, WARP 9"

SIDE STEP THE CLUTCH !!

Enjoy !!!

You'll hear a small chirp from the tires, then everything that was left on the dashboard will be nicely stored in the back of the car.

Of course....the drivetrain (clutch / gearbox) may not like it...but there's NO WAY any FWD / RDW car can even come close to that kind of launch.

On the other hand...if the guy in the AWD is NOT revving the engine high enough...the Z will probably win....

And...keep in mind that the Z and the 3000 are by design GT, and are ERASING driving sensations...the AWD erases them even more.

You've got the feeling the car is slow, and easy to drive. It's not slow...it's easy to drive...until you push it to the limit...then you need to be a pilot...not a driver anymore !!

Yep, fair play Mr. Le Hir...WRX's were a different thing altogether...f**k they are rapid! Wouldn't mind one of them after Capt. Kirk is well and truly deceased! Yum!

Thats a hell of a sweeping statement Henri.

I know you can probably drive your auto, manual and GTO at the same time, but here in England we only have one arse, and we use it to sit in our Zeds and not to talk out of.

No offence mr henri, but i would much rather take the opinion of 8 or 9 journalists over what you think of a car.

so if 99 % of zed drivers dont know what they are doing, chances are you also in that percentile, which therefore means everythiogn you have said is bull????/

VR-4's are nice, just over weight.

Hi,

Guess what I followed on my way home this evening?...A red 3000GTO! It was raining quite heavily, and the road surface was streaming...However, the GTO was able to accelerate out of the many roundabouts up to the M40 with no apparent wheel slip , with ease.He wasn't hanging around!

I was hammering along in my Rover 400, trying to keep up...and I'm sure my old 300ZX would have been sliding around in the same conditions.luckily he kept being held up by slower traffic. wink.gif

I had a similar 'warp factor' experience in a friend's R33 Skyline GTR, going up the drag strip at Avon Park cool.gif

guess your minds made up already lol

they are good looking but i dident like the way the steering felt and it is heavy.

I must admit, they do look nice. Very nice in fact and I was thinking of buying one instead of my Zed.

However I had it on good authority that there is a whole bunch of pointless technology onboard and they are overweight.

Each to his own i spose.

Glen LOL

Cool button apparently that changes the exhaust note from quiet to noisy and sport spice! NICE!

Tim

i bet my dogs smaller than youes timmy?

Sorry...promise I won't mention 3000GTs again! wink.gif

JEZ

Warren me old mate, I don't doubt that for one minute...especially as you is as big as a Chevrolet Truck(if they make 'em?)...and NO I don't have a price from SE or a date! Not moving until October so I thought it apt to give Pete as much warning as possible! LOL!

Watch this space!

Tim

;-)

GTO's are nice!
