I've started to notice that when I'm manouvering at low speeds and full (or close to) left turn lock, I am getting a kind of clunk from the front drivers side wheel. First few times I thought I had driven over something, but now it's more and more consistent and noticeable, ie every time I use full left lock.

There doesn't appear to be any noticeable problem on less acute turns (and therefore higher speeds) but I am starting to be concerned.

Could this be related to new Poly bushes fitted just days before Macca's warning (though the arms checked out A-ok at that point). I also had a full 4 wheel steering geometry check soon after that, so unless they left a screw off....???

any ideas?

Check the bolts on the tension rods that were removed to fit the poly bushes.

I was getting a clunk when I moved from forward to reverse standing still.

Mine came loose twice!

The first time one nut had loosened right to the end of the bolt and the other was only finger tight!

They were "professionally" fitted too :(

If it had come off then the wheel would have collapsed into the arch!

My bolts came loose too.

I have had to tighten them again after fitting poly bushes two weeks ago.

So I would definately check tension bolts.

But sounds like a worn steering ball joint that has some play in it.

Not sure about the ball joint - thought it might have been wear on the end of the rack, but can't think how this would have got worn!

I will have a look at the tension rods though, just a matter of squeezing under the car!

Hi

You will need to take weight off wheels to tighten & get to the bolts. Better with the wheel off (more space) make sure car on stands or blocks though!

If you put the wheels staight and drive Z v'slow & apply brakes, if the tension bolts are loose, as the weight of the car goes f'ward & stops there will be some give in the tension rod. Then check them for tightness.

Hope that makes sense!

Thanks, Arthur, I'll give that a try. Safly I have no means to get to even these simple jobs here at home, so it'll have to go in for a look see, but I will ry the slow brake business later on.
