Hi all,

I've read tons of post on Z problems and some were close, but none were exactly what I'm going through. The Problem: Bad jerking and stalling at constant speed. No problems with starting, idling, or acceleration. I've replaced the spark plugs, injector wires, and knock sensor. I also had my Z on the MOVAC. (system that cleans the injectors) It's a 92 TT Automatic J-spec with 135,000. Any help would be greatly appreciated. THX

AFM?

Could be ye old cone filter problem. If he has one.

Not heard of it happening at lower speeds though.

But the MAS and temp sensor could be to blame

I replaced the intake with a K&N. (makes a funny howl at half % boost) If you are talking about the temperature sensor that sits on the radiator, it's already been replaced. Not to complicate things, but my HICAS light comes on after 20 mins of regular driving. The power streering fluid level is fine, but I'm not sure about the transmission fluid. When the car starts stalling (feels like a plug fouling sometimes) I just give it more throttle and the problem stops until I stop accelerating and attempt to travel at a constant speed. This forum is my last ditch effort before I make a serious decision about my Zed. Since March of this year, I've dropped £3000+ into it. (exhaust, knock sensor, labor etc.) It's super-fast when you give it some. (will spin the tyres at any speed, and it's an automatic) I just want the jerking to stop! I guess I will dig a little deeper and start replacing the PTU and O2 sensors. Here's hoping! Thanks to all that replied......

Ye old cone filter problem stu mentioned is simple to fix. Put a piece of ducktape or whatever tape you can get to stick, and put a strip along the bottom, going from front to back.

The problem is that with a cone filter the air quickly flows in and around the hot wire in the mas, not over it, giving you bad values. Sticking this tape on makes the air turbulent giving proper readings.

Just to clarify, will the tape fix the howling sound or the erratic engine behavior. As for the installation, does the tape go on the bottom side of the filter from the top to the base, or just at the base only. I'm a bit leary on putting anything on the "fins" of the K&N filter. As for the O2 sensors, lemme have a look at what they are going for. CHEERS

I'm just following up on this tread. So far, I've done a full ECU diagnostic and got code 55. (all clear) The O2 test was ok too. From reading tons of post, I recon the ECU just says if things are working, but not if they are reporting a correct value. Therefore, this weekend, I'll disconnect the battery for a day, then use WD40 and emory board (sand paper) to clean contacts on PTU, CAS and MAS (aka AFM). I REALLY hope this does the trick. If not, I'll just start replacing s*** till my baby runs right! May the force be with me........
