Right then, after a long drive, i booted it today in first gear, when i went to change to second it wouldnt go in, and when it eventually did it crunched like fook, then the revs soared and the car accelerated slowly!

When i stopped and pulled away again, the clutch started slipping like mad (in all gears) and i barely made it up the hill to my house!

Have i blown my clutch ?

I have left the car for a couple of hours now and im scared to drive it, because i will break my heart

Is there any suggestions for this - or is it sh@gged?:(

Cheers - mike

It appears you may have, the slave cylinder may have failed also, My clutch has slipped before and then worked fine afterwards. I'd get it checked out if its still doing it, check your clutch fluid is well topped up also.

Doesn't sound promising mate, Can you smell burnt clutch ?.

As Mikes says check the fluid levels in your clutch reservoir.

You may be able to get a cheap 2nd hand clutch for your NA as most of the upgraded boys also upgraded their clutch at the same time.

Can you smell burnt clutch ?.

Yea mate, when i stopped it was stinking of burnt clutch.Im gonna try it in the morning again, and if i get no joy its time toget it checked out!

How much does an uprated clutch go for, new?

:(

Get a bullet and bite it, the smell is the clutch in the atmosphere, was it stock? these will do this. Sorry an all that but look on the bright side you got her (cos shes a fair lady) home.

Either 1) New Clutch Stock & Hupe the Flywheel aint burnt or 2) Uprated new clutch and flywheel = will be more forgivig to low gear high rev releale (ie will grab it rather than burn).

I wen't for 1) and don't do heavy accel low speed release more of a mid range now.

Bottle the burn't clutch smell and go knocking friday ..suspect you could scare a few on the board !!

Oh well

Cheers

Ginja

..and don't forget to bleed the system top and bottom (there are two bleed valves) to make sure that you're getting the best from whatever clutch you have!

Is the clutch fluid pot the one that us all black ? I dont know how to post pics otherwse i would, but the one just infront of the brake fluid pot?!?

If so ive checked it and its half full - in between cold and hot setting. So i gather it aint fluid.

Its odd because it seems to go into gear with no problem at all, an if you put the acelerator half way down it will accelerate nicely, its just if you boot it it the revs soar.

The clutch still seems to bite in the same place it did before!!

Ive never had this with a car before, when the clutch went on my R1916V and on my RsT -it just wouldnt go into gear etc.

The clutch fluid resevoir is located about 2/3 of a foot to the right (looking at engine bay) of the brake cylinder, its a little tiny resevoir with a black cap. It doesnt have hot or cold settings, just high and low!

My clutch slave cylinder went and the car would not go into gear at all and the pedal wouldn't bite it just went in and didn't come out again. Once it was fixed though it was bled...and bled...and bled. And nothing happened to the pedal. Until we realised you had to bleed it at the top too. (one the drivers side by the wing on my non turbo).

Whats the score with triple plate clutches? Are they the best type to get?? my mate tells me you have to rev the engine more on take off, but they are shite hot for take offs!?!?!

I would stay away from the triples mate,

Dual plates are bad enough.

You need to rev the engine to change down a gear and hill starts are almost impossible.

If you do get a triple plate clutch, give me a shout after you've been crawling along in traffic for 20 mins. I wanna hear how fooked off you sound LMAO !!

I have a twin plate and have got used to it, but why on earth would you even consider it for an NA
