I am sure some of ya have seen a Mines ECU in the For Sale forum. Any one got any experience with these and how do they vary from say just having a JWT or SE chip? I am looking for a mod like this so I can get an electronic boost controller and up the boost.

I guess it would need to be remapped to go onto my Zed.

One problem with it is the guy selling it comes from Australia, a bloody long way to go and have words if it doesn't work!

Do you think it would be risky to go ahead and buy this?

Many thanks,

Justin:)

Hi Justin,

I have a MINES ecu and don't have any probs but something you need to be aware of is that these are set up for 100ron fuel so unless he has had it re-mapped, which i doubt as it can only be done in Japan you will have to run on Optimax only.

Thanks Ryan.

Seeing the Mines is a replacement ECU and the JWT and SE are just chips, how is the Mines better or is it?

The guy wants about £200 for it plus P&P from Australia.

Is it really worth it over the other two options?

The Optimax thing is not a problem seeing that all I will run it on anyway.

Justin.

You can't have a mines ECU remapped, they solder in the new chip then put a huge blob of Epoxy over the top so it can't be removed.

So are we basicaly saying its a no-go then if the car its from is not identical to mine. He says it will be fine on a 90-93 TT manual which is ok as mine is a 90 TT manual.

What would happen if I start adding mods such as Zorst, boost controller and induction kit. Will the Mines learn all this on itself or would it need remapping, which it seems is not possible?

You can get the MINES ecu set up for uk fuel but it has to go back to Japan and I think the only company that can send this for you is Option Motorsport (I think) in Silverstone.

The MINES ecu was set up for 400BHP , I started off with just the ECU and have been adding things like boost controller etc , etc and the ECU then re-learns as you go , you will not need to have it altered everytime you add something

Thanks for clearing that up Ryan, how come u decided to go down the Mines route rather than the SE/JWT route as most others seem to have taken?

Justin

I'd guess they just send a different one, because there's no way that chip will come back off! Might be a flash or something I suppose but I doubt the ECU has programming capability.

To some degree the ECU self learns, but the bas maps don't change, it only adjusts the fuelling a little at low to middle revs/load on the signal from the lambda sensors. At high boost and revs it just uses the map figures. Timing is always fixed for a given condition.

Hey - if you're looking for an ECU and are happy for it to be set up for 100RON I have Ben's Veilside for sale still at £150. Quite an agressive tune, a little more 'interesting' than the SE that I normally run. Set up for exhaust, intake and boost upgrade.

Ran my car for a good month on this chip and optimax with no probs.

Cheers!
