I'm getting a new RPS Clutch soon, along with a new rear main seal and a SGP Racing bearing. I was thinking of taking a couple of days off work to have a go myself cos i'd rather not take it to a garage seeing as i've never done a zed clutch and i wan't to see what its like to do.

Do i need any special tools at all? Or can a well stocked garage with the usual kind of assortment of tools do?

Seeing as i'm not changing the flywheel would i need to get the old one skimmed before i put the new clutch on?

Anything else i'm blissfully unaware of:confused:

Thanks,

Stuart.

Yes it is quite doable.

Firstly it took me ages to do mine but that was partly to do with rusted bolts, all bolts were fine apart from every bolt related to the exhaust (Do they specially use a crap steal for exhaust bolts or something?).

Special tools needed, none really, make sure u have a few long extensions for you socket sets, to get the bell housing bolts off requires 2-3 12" extensions.

I know you're supposed to get the flywheel skimmed but i didnt bother (didnt look to bad) and havent had any problems.

Here's a great link, just follow it thru and you should be ok.

Hi Stu, the average cost of doing the clutch at a garage on a Zed is between 180 and 220 quid, so nothing major and that's any type of garage really.

It's an ideal time to skim Flywheel and some do if they have a company nearby who are able to do it for a reasonable cost, usually depends if there are any scortch marks/hot spots on the flywheel at the time of removal.

cheers
