Hi, just brought a NA 1991 300zx fresh from Japan, does anybody know wether i need to run this vehicle on the higher rated fuels like shell optimax or will she be ok running on standard unleaded, just wondered as ive been told that over in Japan the fuels are a higher rating (like shell optimax) than what we have here. Any help or suggestions would be gratefully recieved. Richard.

Supposed to run on regular japanese petrol which is 98 octane, so best to use shell optimax (98ron) or super unleaded (97ron) if optimax not available, will also run ok on normal (95ron) but will be very slightly down on power and economy will suffer.

You are fine running it on normal unleaded. You may feel some performance benifits with running Optimax.

Srrae,

Japanese domestic market are definately supposed to run on 98 ron (UK models are set up for 95) and although you will not damage the engine of a jap import doing this, it WILL be down on standard power, optimax will provide standard performance on the jap import, but may well increasing performance on a UK car due to the different fueling provided by the different ecu's.

It is a NA. There is very little chance of detonation with normal fuel.

People on here have been running their Import Z on normal fuel for years and have no problems.

I can recommend Shell Optimax, really good stuff:)

Does anyone know the octane rating for this new BP Ultimate petrol? I have looked everywhere including BP's website but can't find anything about octane numbers.

Cheers,

Justin:)

Only 97???

Whats so great about that then! Its no better higher than standard super unleaded. Don't know what all the song and dance is about in that case!

Oh well, looks like I will be keeping to Optimax.

Thanks,

Justin.

I use shell Optimax - excellent

geoff.

Optimax is 98 octane
