Not ..... Dissapointing ... for now ;)

Well after my whining earlier about my car not being upto spec, it seems that it managed to come up with the goods for today. I would have posted my chart earlier but I have now discoverd that my scanner doesn't work with win2k :(

Had a great day, lots of nice peeps and cool cars, very tentative moments being at the top and watching the next MEGA ZED go on and risk turning me into second place. I am totally astonished with what it put out, especially compred to the other cars that turned up.

Here's my chart for those that are interested.

C ya all at the next one...

RWHP was around 310 bhp (which I think is massivly low), but the car still needs to be mapped, it's basically out of the box spec at the moment. Need to put some oil in the transmission I think to raise RWHP

Yep

this RWHP or some guestimate BS flywheel figure?

These days, flywheel figure is more accurate than at wheels with a good RR.

You'll get different wheel figures just by altering tyre pressures or running in a different gear.

OK, may not be perfect, but you'll only get that by putting the engine on a bench dyno.

Eh?

How can fly be more accurate (unless using an engine dyno) as the flywheel figure is calculated using the wheels BHP figure as the base and then factoring in the tranny drag which is calculated at the end of the run.

Using a dynopak on the hubs is about as good as you'll get it.

Flywheel power is basically irrelevant as what makes you move is the power left after tranny losses.

Sorry, maybe didn't read too clearly.

Yes, the wheels figure is accurate, but only for that specific set of conditions. If you run the car in a higher gear, you'll loose wheel bhp as it takes more energy to deform the tyre sidewalls at higher speeds - does that mean the engine is producing less power suddenly?

The hub dynos are better, but the same argument can be applied to sticky brakes etc. you have to allow for that. If you put a good engine in a really poor car you'll get a low wheels figure even if the engine is fantastic.

Dave Walker's tuning book has a good article on this subject, worth a read.

Nice one Dave! You'll break 400 next time ;) It's just a figure I know, but seeing as it came out top and you still had more setting up that could be done, and a lump that could probably take more boost, it's mighty impressive. Just seems a bit crazy you don't even have a boost controller fitted yet! Your setup is pretty basic (no real gadgets to speak of) but it's obviously been put together right. Kinda restores my faith that mine's gonna work :)

Thanks mate, would like to get a boost controller, haven't decided which one yet. Keep spending my dosh on something else and then realising I should have bought the controller.

I was lucky your car wasn't ready, as you would have dominated the day.

I am expecting to take my Zed to SXOC's next top Speed Challenge, so this should test the longevity of the engine as it went poof at the last one. Sure your engine will be ok.
