can't get the acceleration rush any other way...

I have now driven my 91 NA for a while, and also have got hold of a TT soarer. So now I know what it's like to drive a twin turbo without anyone flinching beside me thinking pleasedontcrashmycarpleasedontcrashmycar. (I just think it myself)

I have never got the rush from my NA that I get from the twin turbo. It just CANT accelerate like that. It is a gorgeous car, but when i put my foot down in the TT it just rockets. And that's just a Soarer. I put a post up here just before I bought my NA- it was asking whcih I should go for, an NA with low miles and tons of history, and a modified TT with higher miles and no history.

I was a tit. i should have risked the TT. But I didn't. And now I regret it. But I have learned my lesson.

Public confession over.

Yeah, I can't see the point in the N/A TBH.

why dont you sell them both

and buy a 300tt one car you want is

better than two you dont realy want.

steve

ummm.

I was hoping for something more encouraging, like, hey a well tuned NA is a powerful machine, or hey, I really don't want my immaculate twin turbo any more I'm old and infirm and want it to go to a good home...

no chance

steve

just what I am planning to do!! I suppose you learn from your mistakes. I do actually like the Soarer. Quite a lot really (!!!) and I would like to keep it. It WAS the budget for a sensible daily drive. But I do want to get a 300 TT. I am now exploring more creative financing options... like selling everything else I own.

people will buy anythink on e-bay:rofl:

LOL Thats didn't take you long Rich! Lemme know if you wanna spin in my TT, purely for comparison reasons :D:D

Yeah, I cant see the point in 1.8 Single turbo's !!!!!:p  ;)

Rich, Is it not Jock that has put NOS on his N/A???

I think a dash of that may do the trick!!!!:)

NOS - It's not a 'permanent' solution though!

I get kind of mezmerised by the Autotrader 300zx pages looking at tons of cars described as 'very fast', 'tidy for year' and 'fully loaded'. I remember thinking right, priorities for a 300 were (fairly) low milage, manual and Turbo. It's GOT to be turbo. And I bought an NA. Nobody employed me for my decision making capabilities.

Now, although I like my manual, I think I would have considered an auto. I would have taken a stone chip here or there, and a bit of body-kit scuffing. My priorities when I bought the NA were a bit wrong.

No, it didn't take long did it!! I have been seduced to the dark side. Well, if there is a dark side where Soarers are concerned. I have thought about doing a few mods on the soarer and seeing what happens, but it feels a little like giving my CD collection to my dad. I NEED a 300 TT.

I do like the Soarer (really!) but I like being low to the ground in the z. I just keep putting my foot down and waiting for the magic woosh. And it doesn't quite get there. Another draw back is not actually being able to blow away arses who try it on but driving a car that looks like it should be able to, whereas the Soarer has the total opposite effect. (ha ha ha- which is why I quite like it.) Some youthful gentlemen in a Sue B. were right behind me going come on grandad, and I was well able to hold my own, and was NOT going to let them pass. I think they knew what the car was, but they couldn't get passed.

I like the fact the engine is so quiet too. All you hear is a gentle buzz while you get flung forward. I know this isn't what a lot of guys here would agree with, but it is fun- a strange kind of paradox/contradiction in terms sort of a thing. I still like my NA 300 and I don't know how I could get rid of it even when it would be for another 300 TT.

TT all the way ;)

Hey - dont say it like the auto's a different class of car  ;) The differences are marginal.

Wait till you blow the tits out of your turbos and pick up a 1500 quid bill to replace them, then talk about permanent solutions :)

Shame you dont like the NA, but thats personal choice, love mine to bits :D

You were quite right not to buy that modified TT

that had the higher miles and no history.

quite a lot when it has 100bhp more power and 300kg less wieght than a N/A Zed mate. :p xyxwave.gif

In fairness Jezz, from your pic , it looks like you have put a lot of dough into your car, and fair play to you for it.

But, if i chose to, I could put a similiar amount of money into mine and get another 100 ponies, in fact , once my Nos is up and running (which, cos i am a disorganised tw@t its not) I reckon my NA will be running around the 350 mark, taking into account the nos, pipe, induction kit, and ecu mods (not to mention all the mass i saved by tearing out anything I dont recognise :) Not only that, but my 100bhp/200ft/lb of torque will be an instant kick up the arse, rather than waiting, albeit a very short time, for my turbos to spin up.

Jock-

So if I was going to go down the road of modding my NA, where should I start? Exhaust? What gains could I expect? Also, a bottle of Nitreous- how long does it last, and what does it cost?

Aye that'll be cool. :)

I may go the NOS route once I've reached the ~400bhp bhp limit of the turbo i have, or just buy another turbo. But I want an R32 GTR so I'll probably make do with the turbo I have unless I change my mind again LOL.

I reckon if I got NOS I'd be severly bankrupt really quick, the hit is shorter and more expensive than coke LOL.

I'd like to have a dabble with it though at some point just to see what the fuss is about. :)

Rich, It cost about £55 to refil the 11lb bottle, and i reckon you'd do it in about 30mins LOL, I know I would. :)

Rich,

The usual route is exhaust, induction, ecu. These are the easiest to do and reasonably cheep. (you will have probs finding an ecu chip for an NA tho :() from then on depends how far want to go money and work wise. lightened underdrive pulley, headers, polished and ported head, racing cams, all thoese add power but cost some and involve a fair bit of work in ascending order.

The reason I went for NOS is that it is reasonably cheap, easy(ish) to fit and, if you fit a good kit and stay withing the limits of the engine, doesnt put undue strain on the mechanicals.

The 11lb bottle i have is said to last around 60-90 seconds, doesnt sound a lot I know, but factor in this: a reasonably fast car will do a standing 1/4 in 14 secs, Nos is only used at wide open throttle, so that is between 1 1/2 - 2 miles on full tilt Nos and WOT. The problem that i had with the above is that I dont fancy chucking 100bhp/ 200ft/lb of torque through my back wheels at one hit, so am fitting a progressive controller (allowing a preset build up of nos, over a predetermined time) (also its another gadget) this has the benefit of controlling the power and making your nos last longer., the controller cuts in between 30-60% through to 100% over a time of 2-9 seconds, which again is increasing your FT/WOT time.

If you are going somewhere like a track, you make sure you have enough gas (an 11lb co2 fire extinguisher has the same fittings as a nos bottle and is a dam site cheaper) if not it is a little surprise for the traffic light grand prix laddos.
