miss firing

a few months back one of my turbos blew quite badly while i was driving (pushing the car pretty hard), and when i came to a stop the car was miss firing pretty badly, causing the car to shake noticably.

the revs would fall till the car would nearly stall, but then pick up again. this would continue for a few minutes, then the car would run pretty normally again (except for the rattling from the turbo!)

since then the few times i have driven the car, it has seemed to fire properly on all cylinders (although it is a bit hard to tell when you cant push the car properly due to the damaged turbo).

i asked the mechanic who is changing the turbos to check over the car, to make sure there isnt the begginings of a big end knock or something else major as then i wouldnt be able to afford the work. he has reported back that the car is miss firing and wants to sort this before doing the turbos. trouble is i cant tell for my self if it's as bad as it was as im now in uni while the car is 200 miles away at home still.

basically, can anyone think of a reason why the car started to miss fire, but then stopped. and what can be done to stop it, other than checking coil pack connections and that the plugs are sparking.

sorry bout the essay!! :D just that i want to get in as much info to help the diagnoses. plus im sure 'miss fire' isnt the right spelling, looks like a ladies name FFS!:D

thanks in advance, Ed

Hey bud,

STOP DRIVING IT!! It’s a good job ur at uni, and its 200 miles away from you.

U can run ya car for a while with a blown turbo, but I wouldn’t recommend it! I found out the hard way listening to people saying ya car will be ok for a while even when ya turbo is blowing, problem I have is my tub has disintegrated now and sent loads of metal fillings into my engine and fooked it ,

best advice I can give is get it 2 GPS or Silvia engineering ,U may pay less at a local garage but most garage/mechanics don’t no fook all about zeds and when it goes again you will wish you paid the extra.

Good luck and I’ll call u tomorrow
